01 What the Caravel is
The Caravel is the upscale twin of the Bambi — the same compact single-axle shell and the same three floorplans, finished to the highest standard Airstream offers in a small trailer.
Architecturally it's a Bambi: 16 to 22 feet, one torsion axle, the same riveted shell and the same layouts. What changes is everything you touch. A JL Audio stereo with surround sound and a subwoofer, a Moen faucet, a stainless three-burner cast-iron range, Ultraleather cushions, a Sunbrella awning in place of the Bambi's Weathermax, and new Pebble and Driftwood decor packages. That finish adds roughly 300 to 400 pounds over the equivalent Bambi and about $15,000 to $17,000 to the price.
It sits between the standard-trim Bambi below and the larger dual-axle Flying Cloud above. The line splits on bathroom the same way the Bambi does: the 16-foot 16RB uses a wet bath with a single combined waste tank, while the 20FB and 22FB have full three-piece bathrooms. As with every Airstream, there are no slide-outs — you're buying the riveted shell, the longevity, and the resale, here with the nicest single-axle interior the company builds.
02 Choose your floorplan
Three layouts in the current (2025) line, all with verified MSRPs. Weights are factory base figures — decor and solar/lithium options add to them. Each plan links to its full profile.
| Floorplan | Length | Dry (lb) | GVWR (lb) | Hitch (lb) | MSRP | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16RB | 16'2" | 3,500 | 4,300 | 490 | $76,900 | Lightest; wet bath; premium trim |
| 20FB | 20'8" | 4,300 | 5,000 | 565 | $83,500 | Full bath; 3-burner galley |
| 22FB | 21'11" | 4,200 | 5,000 | 525 | $86,800 | Flagship; full rear bath; 54" bed |
The Bambi line offers these same three floorplans on the same shell in standard trim — lighter and several thousand dollars less per plan. All three Caravel profiles are live.
03 How the floorplans differ
The range moves on length and bathroom type. The 16RB is the smallest and lightest — a rear full-size bed, a booth dinette, and a wet bath — yet it rates a higher 4,300-lb GVWR and 800 lb of payload, more than the Bambi on the same plan. It's the most affordable Caravel and the easiest to tow.
The 20FB adds a full three-piece bath, separate tanks, and a panoramic front bed, and is the heaviest of the three at 4,300 lb dry thanks to its galley and finish. The 22FB is the flagship: the largest 54-by-80 bed, a full-width rear bath, a new full-height wood divider for 2025, and the most space — while carrying less tongue weight than the 20FB because its bath sits at the rear. All three stay single-axle and mid-size-truck friendly.
04 Model-year notes
Airstream reintroduced the Caravel and gave it (alongside the Bambi) a dedicated badge in May 2019. For 2025 the line was trimmed to the three floorplans above and received a decor refresh — new Pebble and Driftwood packages, updated laminates and soft goods, and the stainless triple-burner range. One layout offered through roughly 2024 was dropped.
Verified specs for the discontinued 19CB are being pulled from prior-year records and will populate its profile as it publishes.
