Trade Wind

Airstream's off-grid line — the most boondock-capable travel trailers it builds. Every Trade Wind leaves the factory with a large lithium battery bank, an inverter, roof solar, a 3-inch off-road lift, and all-terrain tires, so you can camp far past the hookups and run the air conditioner off battery.

01 What the Trade Wind is

The Trade Wind is Airstream's off-grid line — introduced in September 2023 and built around the most capable factory power and off-road systems Airstream offers.

Every Trade Wind carries an 810 amp-hour bank of heated Battle Born lithium batteries (three 270Ah units) in an insulated box mounted low and central under the floor — four times the capacity of a typical Airstream, and positioned to keep tongue weight reasonable rather than loading the hitch. That feeds a 3,000W inverter, topped up by 500–600 watts of roof solar (with an app-connected Victron monitor) and a DC-to-DC charger from the tow vehicle. The result: enough power to run the outlets, the convection microwave, and even the air conditioner overnight with no shore power. Underneath, a 3-inch lift, two torsion axles with shock absorbers, and 16-inch all-terrain tires take it off the pavement, and a tankless water heater gives unlimited hot water off-grid.

It's a capability line rather than a luxury or design line — where the International and Globetrotter go powered and decorative, the Trade Wind keeps a manual awning and manual stabilizers (fewer things to fail far from help) and adds heated tanks and an integrated winterization kit for cold weather. The trade-off is payload: the heavy battery system eats into cargo capacity, so it rewards deliberate packing. As with every Airstream, there are no slide-outs.

02 Choose your floorplan

Two off-grid floorplans in the current (2025) line, each available in queen or twin configuration, with a third arriving for 2027. Both current plans share the full power and off-road package; they differ in size, payload, and price.

Floorplan Length Dry (lb) GVWR (lb) Hitch (lb) Starting MSRP Best for
23FB 23'11"5,6506,300885$120,900 Compact off-grid; lowest price; ~650 payload
25FB 26'2"6,2007,300885$130,900 Original; rear-hatch option; 1,100 payload
27FB ~27'MY2027 Forthcoming; largest; up to 5 sleepers

Both current profiles are live. The 27FB was revealed in spring 2026 and joins the line for Model Year 2027 — its specifications publish once it reaches production. The off-grid power and off-road systems are standard across the line.

03 How the floorplans differ

Both current plans carry the identical 810Ah lithium bank, 3,000W inverter, solar, 3-inch lift, and all-terrain tires — the difference is body, not capability. The 23FB is the compact, more affordable entry: a 23-foot body with a front bed and a residential rear bath, but a modest ~650-pound payload (the batteries leave little to spare) and no rear entry door. The 25FB — the plan that launched the line — adds two feet, a usable 1,100-pound payload, an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator (vs the 23FB's 6.8), and the optional rear hatch.

Both stand a full 10 feet tall with the rooftop A/C and lift, so clearance matters in garages and parking structures. The forthcoming 27FB brings one of Airstream's most popular front-bedroom layouts and an upgraded energy system to the line for Model Year 2027, with room for up to five.

04 Model-year notes

The Trade Wind is one of Airstream's newest lines and is still expanding. It debuted in September 2023 with the 25FB, added the compact 23FB for Model Year 2025, and revealed the 27FB in spring 2026. The 2026 model year raised some figures over the 2025 specs shown here (notably GVWR and a move to 600W solar).

25FB · 2023The original Trade Wind; launched the off-grid line in September 2023
