The Cougar 316RLS is the floorplan that defines the full-size Cougar line. A panoramic rear living room — sofas, theater seating and windows wrapping the back wall — sits above a flush-floor main level opened by three slide-outs, with the kitchen amidships and a private front bedroom up in the raised nose over the truck bed. It is a couples' coach first, sleeping six nominally, and it spends its 36 feet on living space and finish rather than bunks. For many shoppers it is the archetypal Cougar, the layout the rest of the line is measured against.

This is a full-size fifth wheel, and the build reflects it: a five-sided aluminum superstructure, laminated HyperCore composite sidewalls, a walkable one-piece TPO roof under a lifetime limited roofing warranty, and a heated, enclosed underbelly under the Climate Guard package, tested from 0 to 110 degrees. Tandem 5,100-pound axles ride on H-rated 16-ply tires, four-point auto-leveling sets up the coach at a touch, and the equipment is residential: a 16-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator with a glass front, a 33,000-BTU dual-A/C cooling system, a tankless water heater and 50-amp service.

At 10,792 pounds dry against a 12,900-pound GVWR it leaves 2,108 pounds of payload, and its 1,900-pound dry pin weight — modest for a coach this size thanks to the rear-living layout pulling weight aft — still lands directly on the tow vehicle and rises loaded, so the 316RLS asks for a three-quarter-ton or one-ton truck properly equipped for a fifth wheel. At 13′4″ tall it needs route and clearance planning a travel trailer would not.
