01 What makes it unique
The 16RB is the entry point to the entire Airstream catalog — the smallest and lightest trailer the company builds. At 3,150 pounds dry and 475 on the hitch, it falls within reach of many mid-size SUVs and light trucks that couldn't dream of pulling a bigger silver trailer. A 48-by-78 queen sits at the rear, a dinette up front, and a wet bath between them.
That wet bath is the defining trade. Toilet and shower share one molded space, which is why the 16RB carries a single 30-gallon combined waste tank instead of separate grey and black. It's the compromise that keeps the trailer this short and this light — and in exchange you get the most compact, easiest-to-store Airstream on the market, with a 3.1-cubic-foot fridge and 23 gallons of fresh water sized for weekends, not weeks.
It is unapologetically a two-person trailer, with the convertible dinette for occasional overflow. What it keeps is the whole Airstream proposition: the riveted aluminum shell, the heated underbelly, the panoramic-window build, the slow depreciation. One historical note for used shoppers — 2023 16RB units were subject to NHTSA recall 23V-435 for an incorrect weight label, corrected in production from mid-2023; confirm the corrected label on any pre-owned unit.

03 Bambi floorplan family
The current Bambi line — three single-axle floorplans from a 16-foot wet-bath layout to a 22-foot full-rear-bath build. The 16RB on this page is highlighted; each other plan links to its own profile.
| Floorplan | Nominal | Bedroom | Sleeps | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16RB | 16 ft | Rear | 4 | Lightest; wet bath, rear bed |
| 20FB | 20 ft | Front | 4 | Panoramic front bed, full bath |
| 22FB | 22 ft | Front | 4 | Largest; full rear bath, 54" bed |
The 19CB corner-bed floorplan was part of the Bambi line through roughly 2024 and was dropped for the 2025 model year; it is documented separately as a discontinued plan. The Caravel line shares Bambi's shell and floorplans with upscale trim.
04 What owners & reviewers report
Smallest & easiest to tow
At 3,150 lb dry and 16 feet, the 16RB is the most SUV-friendly Airstream and the simplest to park and store — its entire reason for being.
The wet bath divides people
A combined shower-and-toilet space saves length and weight but feels cramped to some. It's the single biggest thing to sit inside before buying.
One combined waste tank
Because of the wet bath, grey and black share a single 30-gallon tank — simpler plumbing, but one tank to monitor and dump.
Check the 2023 recall
2023 units had an incorrect weight-label recall (NHTSA 23V-435), corrected mid-2023. Verify the corrected label on any used 16RB.
05 How it compares
No smaller riveted travel trailer exists in the line; the off-road-oriented Basecamp is the only lighter Airstream, with a very different rugged layout.
Four feet longer with a full three-piece bath, separate grey/black tanks, and a panoramic front bed — about 750 lb more dry weight.
Fiberglass eggs and teardrops go smaller and cheaper, trading the aluminum shell, interior height, and Airstream resale.
