01 What makes it unique
The Freedom Express Ultra Lite 259FKDS is the line’s front-kitchen couples’ coach and the one plan with a king bed. The galley wraps from the front wall down the door side — a pantry and counter with a stainless sink and overhead cabinet, then the microwave, cooktop and refrigerator — giving a cook real space up front. An off-door slide carries a dinette and a hide-a-bed sofa (with an optional theater seat) plus a wardrobe; an entertainment center with a fireplace lines the inner wall; a full bath with a linen closet sits by the door; and a rear off-door slide holds a 72-by-80 king bed with overhead cabinet, with a rear wardrobe and TV shelf opposite. Nominal capacity is four — a couples’ layout built around the kitchen and the king.
At 6,790 pounds unloaded and 29 feet 11 inches, the 259FKDS is a half-ton tow with a generous ~2,210 pounds of cargo capacity — healthy payload that comes from its 9,000-pound GVWR. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a Magic Chef 10-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a three-burner gas cooktop with a microwave, a GE 15,000-BTU ducted air conditioner with a ducted furnace, a 42,000-BTU tankless water heater, a 200-watt solar package and a large 70-gallon grey tank behind a 52-gallon fresh tank. An 18-foot awning and a full outdoor camp kitchen extend the living outside. A 50-amp upgrade with a second air conditioner is optional.
Construction is the Freedom Express Alumicage recipe — two-step pinch-rolled, vacuum-bonded walls with dual-sided Azdel composite under a LAMILUX 1000 fiberglass exterior, a 3/4 gel-coated fiberglass cap, a full walk-on roof with Dicor Tufflex PVC and a heated, enclosed underbelly, all over a spread-axle chassis — a clear tier above the metal-sided Catalina value line. (Note the 259 forgoes the vaulted under-bed storage of the queen-bed plans to make room for the king.) For a couple who cooks and wants a king bed, a fireplace and a healthy payload in a sub-30-foot half-ton tow, the 259FKDS is the line’s front-kitchen standout.

03 Coachmen Freedom Express Ultra Lite floorplan family
Coachmen's Freedom Express Ultra Lite is the brand's value-oriented ultra-light travel trailer — a laminated-fiberglass, aluminum-caged line built to tow behind a mid-size SUV or any half-ton. The 259FKDS on this page is highlighted; the other profiled plans link to their own pages. Profiled here are breadth-spanning floorplans — a compact couples' rear-bath, a mid couples' coach, a dual-entry family bunkhouse, a dual-slide bunkhouse and the triple-bunk flagship — with the rest of the roster catalogued on the line hub and profiled in demand order. (Coachmen also fields an entry-trim Freedom Express Select sub-line, summarized on the hub.)

Every Freedom Express Ultra Lite uses Alumicage construction: two-step pinch-rolled and vacuum-bonded walls with dual-sided Azdel composite under a LAMILUX 1000 fiberglass exterior, a 3/4 gel-coated fiberglass cap with an automotive-glass windshield, a full walk-on roof with Dicor Tufflex PVC roofing, a 3-inch aluminum-framed floor with 5/8-inch plywood decking and a heated, enclosed underbelly — a clear construction tier above the metal-sided Catalina value line, alongside Coachmen's premium Apex Ultra-Lite. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a Magic Chef 10-cubic-foot 12V double-door refrigerator, a 3-burner gas cooktop with a microwave, a Suburban 42,000-BTU tankless water heater, a GE 15,000-BTU roof air conditioner (with ducted furnace and A/C on all plans except the 192), a Freedom Solar Ready 200-watt panel with a 30-amp controller and 3,000-watt inverter prep, a central vacuum, a porcelain toilet, a power tongue jack, a power awning and backup-camera prep. A 50-amp upgrade with a second 15,000-BTU air conditioner, a hide-a-bed sofa, theater seats and power stabilizer jacks are options on select plans. Lengths, weights and equipment change with options and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional Freedom Express Ultra Lite and Select floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.
04 What owners & reviewers report
The line’s only king bed
The 259FKDS is the one Ultra Lite plan with a 72-by-80 king (on its own rear slide) rather than the standard 60-by-80 queen — a comfort upgrade for couples.
A real front cook’s kitchen
The galley wraps from the front wall down the door side with a stainless sink, cooktop, microwave and refrigerator — more counter and storage than a mid-galley couples’ plan.
Healthy payload and a big grey tank
A 9,000-lb GVWR over a 6,790-lb unloaded weight leaves about 2,210 lb of cargo capacity, and the 70-gallon grey tank stretches the time between dumps.
No vaulted under-bed storage
Unlike the queen-bed plans, the 259 forgoes the Freedom vaulted bed storage to fit the king — a small trade for the larger bed.
Selling price runs well below the placard
Dealer MSRP placards run into the mid-$50,000s while selling prices commonly land near $37,000; the figure shown is dealer-typical selling and is flagged.
05 How it compares
A rear-kitchen couples’ coach — a queen bed, a single slide and a lower GVWR, with the galley at the back instead of the front.
A longer rear-kitchen couples’ coach — more length and a similar big payload, profiled in demand order on the line hub.
A rear-living couples’ flagship in Coachmen’s premium ultra-light line — richer equipment and 50-amp service standard, at a higher price.
