01 What makes it unique
The Freedom Express Ultra Lite 274RKS is a rear-kitchen couples’ coach — a popular layout (this one carries “Josh the RV Nerd” design input) that wraps the galley around the back wall so the cook gets a peninsula counter with a flip-up extension, a stainless sink and a run of cabinetry, with the front of the trailer kept as a private bedroom. A front foot-facing queen with vaulted under-bed storage, side wardrobes and a linen closet anchors one end; an off-door full bath sits behind it; a wine rack and pantry line the inner wall; and a single off-door slide carries an entertainment center with a swivel TV and a fireplace next to a dinette. A door-side theater-seat hide-a-bed sofa faces the slide, and an exterior pull-out camp kitchen with a refrigerator extends the cooking outside. Nominal capacity is four.
At 6,866 pounds unloaded and 31 feet 10 inches, the 274RKS is a half-ton-plus tow that carries one of the more generous couples’-coach payloads in the line: a 9,000-pound GVWR over a 6,866-pound unloaded weight leaves about 2,134 pounds of cargo capacity. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a Magic Chef 10-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a Magic Chef three-burner gas cooktop with a microwave, a GE 15,000-BTU ducted air conditioner with a ducted furnace, a Suburban 42,000-BTU tankless water heater, a Freedom Solar Ready 200-watt panel with a 30-amp controller and 3,000-watt inverter prep. A 50-amp upgrade with a second 15,000-BTU air conditioner is optional. A 70-gallon grey tank backs a 50-gallon fresh tank and a 35-gallon black tank, and an 18-foot power awning shades the door side.
Construction is the Freedom Express Alumicage recipe — two-step pinch-rolled, vacuum-bonded walls with dual-sided Azdel composite under a LAMILUX 1000 fiberglass exterior, a 3/4 gel-coated fiberglass cap, a full walk-on roof with Dicor Tufflex PVC and a heated, enclosed underbelly, all over a spread-axle chassis — a clear tier above the metal-sided Catalina value line. For a couple who cooks and wants a wrap-around rear galley, a private front bedroom, a fireplace and a generous payload in a still-half-ton-towable coach, the 274RKS is one of the line’s most practical rear-kitchen plans.

Every Freedom Express Ultra Lite uses Alumicage construction: two-step pinch-rolled and vacuum-bonded walls with dual-sided Azdel composite under a LAMILUX 1000 fiberglass exterior, a 3/4 gel-coated fiberglass cap with an automotive-glass windshield, a full walk-on roof with Dicor Tufflex PVC roofing, a 3-inch aluminum-framed floor with 5/8-inch plywood decking and a heated, enclosed underbelly — a clear construction tier above the metal-sided Catalina value line, alongside Coachmen's premium Apex Ultra-Lite. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a Magic Chef 10-cubic-foot 12V double-door refrigerator, a 3-burner gas cooktop with a microwave, a Suburban 42,000-BTU tankless water heater, a GE 15,000-BTU roof air conditioner (with ducted furnace and A/C on all plans except the 192), a Freedom Solar Ready 200-watt panel with a 30-amp controller and 3,000-watt inverter prep, a central vacuum, a porcelain toilet, a power tongue jack, a power awning and backup-camera prep. A 50-amp upgrade with a second 15,000-BTU air conditioner, a hide-a-bed sofa, theater seats and power stabilizer jacks are options on select plans. Lengths, weights and equipment change with options and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional Freedom Express Ultra Lite and Select floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.
04 What owners & reviewers report
A wrap-around rear galley for cooks
The peninsula kitchen wraps from the inner wall around to the rear with a flip-up counter extension, a stainless sink, a cooktop and a 10-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator — a real run of workspace, with a private front bedroom.
Fireplace, swivel TV and a hide-a-bed
The single slide carries an entertainment center with a swivel TV and a fireplace, and the door-side theater seat doubles as a hide-a-bed — a comfortable lounge for a couple plus an occasional guest.
Generous payload for a couples’ coach
A 9,000-lb GVWR over a 6,866-lb unloaded weight leaves about 2,134 lb of cargo capacity — real headroom for full water, gear and the rear-galley load.
A half-ton-plus tow
At 6,866 lb UVW and 870 lb of hitch weight, the 274RKS wants a capable half-ton or larger — confirm your truck’s rating and watch tongue load, which runs high with the rear kitchen.
Selling price runs well below the placard
Dealer MSRP placards run into the $50,000s while selling prices commonly land near $37,000; the figure shown is dealer-typical selling and is flagged.
05 How it compares
A shorter rear-kitchen couples’ plan — a pass-through bath and a lower GVWR, lighter and easier to tow with a tighter payload.
A single-slide family bunkhouse on a similar footprint — a rear bunk room and a U-dinette slide instead of a rear galley, with a higher GVWR.
A rear-kitchen couples’ plan one construction tier down — metal-sided value build, heavier, at a lower price.
