Camper Trailer Weight Chart: How Much Does a Travel Trailer Weigh?
Real published weights for 1,223 travel trailers and 403 fifth wheels (of 1,225 and 403; 2 whose published hitch figure is flagged as implausible are left out of every statistic here), grouped by length, so you can see what a camper of a given size actually weighs empty and how heavy it is allowed to get.
Short answer. The median travel trailer in this catalogue weighs 6,099 lb dry (half fall between 4,649 and 7,577 lb; n=1,132) and is rated for 7,762 lb loaded (median GVWR, n=933). The median fifth wheel weighs 12,500 lb dry (10,379–14,529 lb middle half; n=363) with a median GVWR of 16,205 lb (n=282). Weight rises with length: the median travel-trailer dry weight goes from 2,389 lb at 12–16 ft to 12,711 lb at 44–48 ft (bands below).

Dry weight, GVWR and cargo capacity: which number to use
Dry weight (unloaded vehicle weight, UVW) is the trailer as it left the factory in base form. It is the number brochures lead with, and it is the one you will never tow: water, batteries, gear and dealer options all add to it. Federal labelling rules treat on-board water as cargo and count full propane tanks in the unloaded weight on an RV trailer’s load label (49 CFR 571.110); a brochure figure does not always say which convention it follows.
GVWR is the most the manufacturer rates the loaded trailer to weigh. Plan a tow against it, not against dry weight. The difference between the two is the cargo carrying capacity; across 1,148 travel trailers here that publish it, the median is 1,699 lb.
Hitch weight is the share of the trailer that sits on your tow vehicle. The published figure is the maker’s: across 1,204 travel trailers here that publish one, 319 of the 1,204 labelled dry by their makers (the trailer empty); the rest are printed as a plain hitch weight, with no basis stated. Across 1,114 travel trailers here that publish both, the median published tongue weight is 12.4% of dry weight. It rises as you load the trailer, and it counts against your vehicle’s payload. The guide to reading trailer weight numbers works through a full example.

What is the difference between dry weight and GVWR?
Dry weight (also called unloaded vehicle weight, UVW) is the trailer as built in base form, before water, cargo and dealer-installed options. GVWR, the gross vehicle weight rating, is the maximum the manufacturer rates the loaded trailer to weigh. The difference between them is the cargo carrying capacity (CCC), which manufacturers print on a label inside the trailer.
Figures on this page are computed from the site’s own verified-specs dataset (1,628 floorplans; generated 2026-10-21), which is read from the floorplan pages and their named manufacturer and dealer-network sources. Dry, hitch and pin weights are as published, before options, water and cargo. Two published hitch figures that are physically implausible are printed on their pages with a flag and left out of every statistic here (conflicts). How the data is verified. Built 19 Oct 2026.
