01 What makes it unique
The Sabre 36EST leaves Forest River's factory at 12,463 lbs dry with 2,800 lbs of cargo capacity. Forest River publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 74-gallon fresh tank spends 614 lbs of the 2,800 lbs before anything else goes in.
Pin weight is 2,265 lbs, which is 18% of the dry weight. That figure lands on the truck's rear axle and comes straight off its payload rating - not its towing rating, which is the number most often quoted and the wrong one for this decision. Pin weight rises as the trailer is loaded, and a fifth wheel loaded toward its cargo capacity will put substantially more than 2,265 lbs over the bed. Read the payload figure on your own door sticker rather than a brochure maximum for the model.
Tank capacities are 74 gallons fresh, 68 grey and 38 black, 106 gallons of waste capacity against 74 gallons of supply. The ratio is what governs how long the trailer can sit off hookups: waste capacity exceeds fresh, so the fresh tank is the binding constraint and refilling extends the stay. Forest River publishes these three figures per floorplan, and they are the factory's numbers rather than a segment average.
Against the rest of the Sabre roster this is the 5th of 10 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 10,658 lbs to 13,838 lbs. It sits in the middle of the line by weight. Comparing floorplans inside one line is more reliable than comparing across brands, because every figure here comes from the same factory channel on the same day.
A useful way to read these figures is to stop planning against the dry weight. Nobody tows a trailer at 12,463 lbs: that is the weight before water, batteries, propane, bedding, food, tools and anything the dealer bolted on. Load half the published cargo capacity and this plan is already near 13,863 lbs on the road. Because Forest River publishes no loaded rating for this line, the ceiling has to come from the trailer's own weight label rather than from this page, and the comparison you make against the tow vehicle should use the loaded figure.
Every number above was captured twice from Forest River and checked against itself before it was published. The line listing and the individual floorplan page are two separate factory renderings of the same trailer, and this plan's 4 shared figures agree exactly on both. There is no published GVWR on this line, so the usual arithmetic check - dry plus cargo equals the rating - has nothing to test against here. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because Forest River does not publish it in this channel, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.
Forest River's own description of this floorplan reads: “This floorplan is available with the Rugged & Loyal Edition Package (36ESTRLD & 36ESTRLM).” That is the factory's marketing copy rather than a specification, and nothing in it is treated as a verified field on this page - layout descriptions, sleeping arrangements and feature claims in factory copy are not carried into the spec table unless the factory also publishes them as specifications.
How the 36EST differs from the other nine Sabre floorplans. Most distinctive first. Each rank counts only the siblings that publish that field, and a figure most of them share is left out. Not every one of these pages covers the same model years as this one (2027); each figure is the one its own page prints, so a rank compares pages, not one model year.

03 The Sabre floorplan family
Eight 2027 Sabre floorplans with a full factory record, read from Forest River on 22 Oct 2026. They run 10,708 to 13,838 lb dry on lengths of 35 feet 11 inches to 44 feet, with hitch weights of 1,990 to 2,515 lb and cargo capacities of 2,552 to 3,182 lb. Forest River publishes no GVWR for these plans in this channel, so none is shown and none is computed.

Forest River's 2027 Sabre roster, read 22 Oct 2026, lists ten floorplans. 32RL, 32RK, 36EST, 37FLH are on this site for the first time; four already have their own page here, which keeps the record it was built from. Two further roster entries are listed on the hub without a page. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What Forest River does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from Forest River's specification channel for Sabre, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
There is no factory GVWR for this trailer
Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and pin weight for every Sabre floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every Forest River unit carries.
Awning size is not published for this floorplan
Forest River publishes an awning size for some Sabre floorplans and not for this one. The row reads as unpublished rather than being filled from a neighbouring plan in the same roster.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. Forest River's own footnote on unloaded weight calls it an estimated average based on a standard build with optional equipment, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move it. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.
05 How it compares
10,913 lbs dry against this plan's 12,463 lbs, a difference of 1,550 lbs. Same line, same factory channel, same model year - so the gap is a real one rather than a difference in how two brands measure.
12,503 lbs dry, 40 lbs more than this plan, and 2,800 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 2,800 lbs. Stepping up a floorplan usually buys length before it buys payload.
3,182 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 10 Sabre floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 74-gallon fresh tank is about 614 lb of water, 22% of the 36EST’s 2,800 lb cargo capacity, leaving 2,186 lb. Across 10 Sabre floorplans the water share runs 13% to 22%, and this plan’s is the highest. Nearest on that share: Sabre 32RL at 22%.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Sabre 32RK, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 5 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): length 41 ft 3 in vs 37 ft 5 in; dry weight 12,463 lb vs 10,913 lb; hitch weight 2,265 lb vs 2,140 lb; fresh tank 74 gal vs 73 gal; grey tank 68 gal vs 76 gal. They match on cargo capacity and black tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 13 recall campaigns and 14 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Sabre line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.
What to look at on a used one. Across the 14 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are tires (43%), equipment (14%) and structure (14%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Sabre line page.
