01 What makes it unique

The Prime Time Avenger 18DBS leaves Forest River's factory at 3,939 lbs dry with 961 lbs of cargo capacity. Forest River publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 41-gallon fresh tank spends 340 lbs of the 961 lbs before anything else goes in.

Tongue weight is 500 lbs, or 13% of the dry weight. Ten to fifteen percent is the conventional band for a bumper-pull trailer, and this plan sits inside it as published. Tongue weight is not fixed: it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A weight-distribution hitch is the normal fitment at this tongue load, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit.

Tank capacities are 41 gallons fresh, 30 grey and 30 black, 60 gallons of waste capacity against 41 gallons of supply. The ratio is what governs how long the trailer can sit off hookups: waste capacity exceeds fresh, so the fresh tank is the binding constraint and refilling extends the stay. Forest River publishes these three figures per floorplan, and they are the factory's numbers rather than a segment average.

Against the rest of the Prime Time Avenger roster this is the 7th of 11 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 2,534 lbs to 7,393 lbs. It sits in the middle of the line by weight. Comparing floorplans inside one line is more reliable than comparing across brands, because every figure here comes from the same factory channel on the same day.

A useful way to read these figures is to stop planning against the dry weight. Nobody tows a trailer at 3,939 lbs: that is the weight before water, batteries, propane, bedding, food, tools and anything the dealer bolted on. Load half the published cargo capacity and this plan is already near 4,419 lbs on the road. Because Forest River publishes no loaded rating for this line, the ceiling has to come from the trailer's own weight label rather than from this page, and the comparison you make against the tow vehicle should use the loaded figure.

Every number above was captured twice from Forest River and checked against itself before it was published. The line listing and the individual floorplan page are two separate factory renderings of the same trailer, and this plan's 4 shared figures agree exactly on both. There is no published GVWR on this line, so the usual arithmetic check - dry plus cargo equals the rating - has nothing to test against here. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because Forest River does not publish it in this channel, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.

Forest River's own description of this floorplan reads: “The 18DBS is the most versatile bunk house! This floor plan is towing friendly and suitable for most tow vehicles. Our large double over double bunk beds offer more comfort and flexibility than traditional single bunks. The family friendly U-shape dinette, residing in a slide out, opens up this floor plan and provides additional storage underneath the benches as well as an additional sleeping space. Enjoy the large…” That is the factory's marketing copy rather than a specification, and nothing in it is treated as a verified field on this page - layout descriptions, sleeping arrangements and feature claims in factory copy are not carried into the spec table unless the factory also publishes them as specifications.

How the 18DBS differs from the other ten Prime Time Avenger floorplans. Most distinctive first. Each rank counts only the siblings that publish that field, and a figure most of them share is left out.

  • Cargo capacity, 961 lb: smallest of eleven; next is the 17DBX (1,266 lb).
  • Dry weight, 3,939 lb: fifth-heaviest of eleven, between the 17DBX (3,649 lb) and the 20RBS (5,253 lb).
  • Tongue weight, 500 lb: sixth-lightest of eleven, between the 16RBX (450 lb) and the 17DBX (515 lb).
  • Tongue weight as a share of dry weight, 12.7%: sixth-smallest of eleven, between the 12RDX (12.4%) and the 12BHX (13%).
  • Length, 23 ft 3 in: sixth-shortest of eleven, between the 17DBX (23 ft 2 in) and the 17RDX (23 ft 6 in).
  • Fresh tank, 41 gal: smallest of eleven, level with the 16BHX, 16RBX and two others; next are the 12BHX, 12RDX and four others (42 gal).
  • Exterior height, 10 ft 4 in: shared with the 12RDX, 16BHX and two others; of eleven, two lower and four taller, nearest the 17RDX (10 ft 3 in) and the 20RBS, 25RKM and 28QBS (10 ft 8 in).

Next to the 17DBX, the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 18DBS is 290 lb heavier by dry weight, has 305 lb less cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 15 lb lighter and is 1 in longer; the two publish the same exterior height, fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.

Next to the 20RBS, the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 18DBS is 1,314 lb lighter by dry weight, has 1,336 lb less cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 50 lb lighter, is 2 ft 8 in shorter, stands 4 in lower and has a fresh tank 1 gal smaller; the two publish the same grey tank and black tank.

Forest River's 2027 Prime Time Avenger roster, read 24 Oct 2026, lists fifteen floorplans. 16BHX, 18DBS, 20RBS, 27TTI are on this site for the first time; eleven already have their own page here, which keeps the record it was built from. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel.

04 Notes on this floorplan

What Forest River does not publish for this line

Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from Forest River's specification channel for Prime Time Avenger, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.

There is no factory GVWR for this trailer

Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and tongue weight for every Prime Time Avenger floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every Forest River unit carries.

Awning size is not published for this floorplan

Forest River publishes an awning size for some Prime Time Avenger floorplans and not for this one. The row reads as unpublished rather than being filled from a neighbouring plan in the same roster.

Weigh it before you tow it

Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. Forest River's own footnote on unloaded weight calls it an estimated average based on a standard build with optional equipment, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move it. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.

05 How it compares

Lighter
Prime Time Avenger 17DBX

3,649 lbs dry against this plan's 3,939 lbs, a difference of 290 lbs. Same line, same factory channel, same model year - so the gap is a real one rather than a difference in how two brands measure.

Heavier
Prime Time Avenger 20RBS

5,253 lbs dry, 1,314 lbs more than this plan, and 2,297 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 961 lbs. Stepping up a floorplan usually buys length before it buys payload.

Most cargo in the line
Prime Time Avenger 27TTI

2,497 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 11 Prime Time Avenger floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.

06 Loading it for a trip

A full 41-gallon fresh tank is about 340 lb of water, 35% of the 18DBS’s 961 lb cargo capacity, leaving 621 lb. Across 11 Prime Time Avenger floorplans the water share runs 14% to 35%, and this plan’s is the highest. Nearest on that share: Prime Time Avenger 17DBX at 27%.

07 Where this floorplan sits

Closest sibling: the Prime Time Avenger 17DBX, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 4 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): length 23 ft 3 in vs 23 ft 2 in; dry weight 3,939 lb vs 3,649 lb; cargo capacity 961 lb vs 1,266 lb; hitch weight 500 lb vs 515 lb. They match on fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.

11 NHTSA safety record

NHTSA holds 9 recall campaigns and 6 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Avenger line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.

Too few reports to show a pattern. 6 complaints have been filed on this line — not enough to say what fails most often. They cover tires, equipment and structure.

Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Avenger line page.
