Short answer. In a model code such as 26BH, the number is roughly the length in feet and the letters name the layout. Only two makers’ own pages read for this guide define their letters: Jayco says BH means a bunk house, FD a front dinette and RB a bathroom in the rear; Airstream says FB, RB and CB mean front bed, rear bed and corner bed. So the same letters, RB, mean a rear bath on a Jayco and a rear bed on an Airstream. Everything else below is labelled common usage: how the letters are usually read, not a maker’s definition. Of this site’s 1,818 floorplan pages (n=1,818), 93% (1,688 of 1,818) carry a letter code, and 25% (454 of 1,818) have a bunk code (BH anywhere in the code, or a code starting DB, QB or MB).
01How to read a code
- Number first. Jayco: “the numbers refer to the approximate length of the RV”. It is approximate: check the floorplan page for the measured length.
- Letters next. Jayco: “the letters stand for a distinctive floorplan feature”, and “different manufacturers may use different abbreviations and formulas”. A letter code is a hint, not a specification. Read the floorplan drawing before you buy.
- Extra letters at the end (S, X, DS, TS, LE, W and others) are used differently by each line. No maker page read for this guide defines them, so this guide does not give them a meaning; see section 05.
- Some codes are only numbers (Brinkley Model Z, Jayco Seismic, r·pod and others). 130 of 1,818 floorplan pages here have no letters after the number.
02Bunkhouse codes: BH, BHS, DBH and the rest
Jayco defines BH: “the Jay Flight 26BH is a roughly 26-foot model with a bunk house.” That definition is Jayco’s; on every other maker’s plan, reading BH as bunkhouse is common usage. On this site, 334 floorplan pages have BH somewhere in the code (n=334): median length 30 ft 6 in (n=330), median GVWR 7,714 lb (n=264), median sleeps 8 (n=217). 95 of them are Jayco plans (n=334). The table lists, alphabetically, each exact code containing BH that 3 or more floorplans here use (19 codes covering 286 of the 334); the letters before or after BH are not defined by any maker page read for this guide.

Median GVWR counts only ratings a maker printed, never one computed by addition, and leaves out ratings this site flags as not reconciling. Sleeps is the maker’s own figure.
03Every code family, with what it means and who uses it
Each floorplan page on this site (one per floorplan; model-year records are not counted again) is placed in the family of the first two letters of its code, so 26BHS counts under BH and 293RLDS under RL. 1,118 of the 1,688 pages with a letter code fall in a family below (n=1,688). The meaning column says, every time, whether a maker defines the letters or whether the reading is common usage.

04Same letters, different meaning: RB and FB
RB is the clearest case. Jayco says RB is “a bathroom in the rear”; Airstream says “RB = Rear Bed”. Of the 124 floorplans on this site whose code starts RB (n=124), 9 are Airstream plans, where RB means rear bed, 24 are Jayco plans, where RB means rear bath, and 91 are from other makers, where reading it as rear bath is common usage only.
FB works the same way. Airstream defines FB as front bed; 17 of the 50 FB floorplans here are Airstream’s (n=50). On the other 33, FB has no maker definition in this guide’s sources and is read as either front bedroom or front bath, so check the drawing.
05Extra letters at the end
Counted among the 1,118 floorplans in a code family (n=1,118): how many end in each extra letter group after the family letters, and across how many lines. No maker page read for this guide defines these endings, and lines use them for different things (a slide, a package, an edition), so this guide gives counts, not meanings.
