01 What makes it unique

The Jay Flight 245BHSW is the 35th-lightest of the 56 MY2027 Jay Flight floorplans this site carries from Jayco’s own 2027 model pages, with 34 plans below it and 21 above. Its 5,460 lbs dry and 7,000 lbs GVWR leave 1,540 lbs of cargo capacity — 22% of the loaded rating, which is the figure that actually decides what you can put in it.

Fresh water is the load most owners forget to count. The 76 gallon fresh tank weighs about 631 lbs full, which is 41% of this plan's 1,540 lbs of cargo capacity before a single bag goes in. Grey and black hold 40 and 40 gallons. Travelling with full fresh and empty waste tanks is the arrangement that leaves the most room for everything else.

It runs two axles. Jayco's own factory page for this floorplan settles that; the aggregator spec block reports one axle for it, which the factory contradicts. Where the two disagree the factory governs, and the discrepancy is set out in section 02.

How the 245BHSW differs from the other 122 Jay Flight floorplans. Most distinctive first. Sibling pages may cover other model years than this one (2026–2027). How these ranks are worked out.

  • Black tank, 40 gal: shared with the 130BHW, 140TBW and seventeen others; of 121, 100 smaller and one larger, nearest the 130BH, 130RD and 79 others (39 gal) and the 330TBS (78 gal).
  • Exterior height, 11 ft: shared with the 200MKSW, 210QBW and five others; of 109, 77 lower and 24 taller, nearest the 295BHSW and 331BTS (10 ft 9 in) and the 261BHS (11 ft 1 in).
  • Grey tank, 40 gal: shared with the 130RDW, 172DBW and sixteen others; of 118, 78 smaller and 21 larger, nearest the 140TB, 172DB and 49 others (39 gal) and the 40LOFT, 40LSDL and JAYLOFT (65 gal).
  • Cargo capacity, 1,540 lb: 44th-smallest of 123, between the 200MKS (1,535 lb) and the 225MLS and 270BHSW (1,620 lb).

Next to the 247RBS (2023–2024 page), the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 245BHSW is 20 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 250 lb higher, has 270 lb more cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 20 lb lighter, is 3 in shorter, stands 7 in taller, has a fresh tank 24 gal larger, has a grey tank 1 gal larger, has a black tank 1 gal larger and sleeps one more; the two publish the same interior height.

Specifications by model year

This floorplan has a published factory record for 2 model years here, 2026 to 2027. The specification does not hold still: dry weight runs from 5,380 lb (2026) to 5,460 lb (2027); dry tongue weight runs from 625 lb (2026) to 630 lb (2027). The published sleeping capacity changes across the years: up to 8 in 2026, up to 6 in 2027. Each year’s complete record is printed separately below, carrying only that year’s own published figures and source. Nothing is copied across from a neighbouring year.

Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page for that year. Jayco titles its 2026 model page for this floorplan Jay Flight SLX 245BHSW. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2027 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2027 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.

What changed for the 2026 model year

2026 is the earliest model year of the 245BHSW on this site, so there is no earlier record to set it against. Section 01 compares it with 2027.

Source for 2026. Specifications reflect the 2026 model year as published by Jayco on its own 2026 model page for this floorplan, which Jayco titles Jay Flight SLX 245BHSW, and are dry factory figures for a base unit. Options, dealer-installed equipment and cargo all add weight. A travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle, so the loaded tongue must be checked against the receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against its tow rating. Dry weight plus cargo capacity ties out exactly to the published GVWR for this model year. CamperTrailers.com publishes verified manufacturer data and is not affiliated with Jayco, Inc.

Towing it

Tow rating needed7,000 lb
Published dry tongue weight630 lb
Loaded tongue weight, rule of thumb700–1,050 lb
Receiver hitch rating needed7,000 lb towed / 1,050 lb tongue
Payload check. Budget loaded, not dry: subtract the loaded range, every passenger, the bed and cab load and a weight-distributing hitch from the payload on your tow vehicle’s door-pillar placard (49 CFR 571.110 S4.3).

Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.

Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (7,000 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (1,050 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.

Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433).

Layout descriptions are decoded from Jayco's own floorplan-code suffixes (BH bunkhouse, MB Murphy bed, RLS rear living, QB queen bed, TBS two-bedroom slide, and so on). They describe the code, not a measured interior: this site publishes no interior dimensions for this line and therefore no floorplan diagrams.

04 Reading these numbers

Cargo capacity in context

GVWR minus dry weight is 1,540 lbs on this plan, 22% of the loaded rating. Across the 56 MY2027 Jay Flight floorplans this site carries, the same figure runs from 18% to 38%. Dry weight is a base-unit number: options, batteries and a full propane bottle all come out of the cargo figure, not the dry one.

Axle count — aggregator data corrected

Jayco's own factory page for the 245BHSW lists it as a 2-axle unit, and its mandatory equipment package is the double-axle package. Factory data outranks aggregator data here, so this page publishes 2. The discrepancy is recorded rather than quietly dropped: anyone cross-checking against that aggregator will see one axle and should not trust it on this line.

Eastern and western builds differ

Jayco builds this floorplan at two plants and publishes separate figures for each. The 245BHSW is 95 lbs lighter dry than the 245BHS (5,460 vs 5,555), and the fresh tank differs too (76 gal vs 52 gal). Neither number is a typo for the other — check which build a given unit is.

What this page does not publish

Every figure on this page is from Jayco’s own 2027 model page for this floorplan, tongue weight, tire size and axle count included. Jayco publishes no room-by-room interior dimensions, which is why this page carries no floorplan diagram.

Sources: Jayco’s own same-year floorplan pages, against which the weights, tanks, sleeping capacity, tire size, length and height were checked on 2 Nov 2026 where one is on file; Jayco’s product copy for the fresh-tank and axle rule.

06 Loading it for a trip

A full 76-gallon fresh tank is about 631 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.2), 41% of the Jay Flight 245BHSW’s 1,540 lb cargo capacity, leaving 909 lb (152 lb per rated berth). Across 123 Jay Flight floorplans the water share runs 13% to 47%, and 4 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Jay Flight 210QBW at 39% and Jay Flight 264BHW at 42%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.3).
