01 What makes it unique
The Jay Flight 261BHS is the 40th-lightest of the 56 MY2027 Jay Flight floorplans this site carries from Jayco’s own 2027 model pages, with 39 plans below it and 16 above. Its 5,975 lbs dry and 7,600 lbs GVWR leave 1,625 lbs of cargo capacity — 21% of the loaded rating, which is the figure that actually decides what you can put in it.
Fresh water is the load most owners forget to count. The 52 gallon fresh tank weighs about 432 lbs full, which is 27% of this plan's 1,625 lbs of cargo capacity before a single bag goes in. Grey and black hold 39 and 39 gallons. Travelling with full fresh and empty waste tanks is the arrangement that leaves the most room for everything else.
It runs two axles. Jayco's own factory page for this floorplan settles that; the aggregator spec block reports one axle for it, which the factory contradicts. Where the two disagree the factory governs, and the discrepancy is set out in section 02.
How the 261BHS differs from the other 122 Jay Flight floorplans. Most distinctive first. Sibling pages may cover other model years than this one (2024–2027). How these ranks are worked out.
- Exterior height, 11 ft 1 in: 24th-tallest of 109, between the 200MKSW, 210QBW and six others (11 ft) and the 200MKS, 262RLSW and five others (11 ft 2 in).
- Sleeping capacity, 10: shared with the 250BH, 250BHW and seventeen others; of 110, 84 smaller and six larger, nearest the 264BH, 264BHW and three others (9) and the 321BDS, 324BDS and two others (11).
- Cargo capacity as a share of GVWR, 21.4%: 43rd-smallest of 123, between the 212QB and 32TSBH (21.2%) and the 262RLS and 33RBTS (21.5%).
- Cargo capacity, 1,625 lb: shared with the 280RKS; of 123, 46 smaller and 75 larger, nearest the 225MLS and 270BHSW (1,620 lb) and the 285BHS (1,640 lb).
- Dry tongue weight as a share of dry weight, 12.5%: shared with the 280BHSW and 40DLFT; of 122, 71 smaller and 48 larger, nearest the 172DB and 263BHS (12.4%) and the 295BHS (12.6%).
- Dry weight, 5,975 lb: 55th-heaviest of 123, between the 267BHSW (5,905 lb) and the 263RBS and 267BHS (6,075 lb).
- Dry tongue weight, 745 lb: 58th-heaviest of 122, between the 270BHS (725 lb) and the 270BHSW (760 lb).
- Length, 30 ft 4 in: shared with the 265TH, 267BHS and 267BHSW; of 123, 64 shorter and 55 longer, nearest the 261BHSW (30 ft 3 in) and the 274BH (30 ft 7 in).
- GVWR, 7,600 lb: shared with the 261BHSW, 267BHS and 267BHSW; of 123, 62 lower and 57 higher, nearest the 236TH, 240RBSW and two others (7,500 lb) and the 265MWS and 265MWSW (7,700 lb).
- Grey tank, 39 gal: shared with the 140TB, 172DB and 48 others; of 118, 27 smaller and 40 larger, nearest the 21QB (33 gal) and the 130RDW, 172DBW and seventeen others (40 gal).
- Fresh tank, 52 gal: shared with the 200MKS, 210QB and 47 others; of 123, 31 smaller and 42 larger, nearest the 40LOFT (51 gal) and the 40FKDS (53 gal).
Next to the 267BHSW (2023–2025 page), the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 261BHS is 70 lb heavier by dry weight, has 70 lb less cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 45 lb lighter, stands 8 in taller and has a fresh tank 24 gal smaller; the two publish the same GVWR, length, interior height, grey tank, black tank and sleeping capacity.
Next to the 263RBS (2023 page), the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 261BHS is 100 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 100 lb higher, has 200 lb more cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 25 lb heavier, is 3 in longer, stands 9 in taller, has a fresh tank 14 gal larger, has a grey tank 39 gal smaller and sleeps five more; the two publish the same interior height and black tank.
Specifications by model year
This floorplan has a published factory record for 4 model years here, 2024 to 2027. The specification does not hold still: GVWR runs from 7,500 lb (2025) to 7,600 lb (2027); dry weight runs from 5,750 lb (2025) to 5,975 lb (2027); dry tongue weight runs from 685 lb (2024) to 745 lb (2027). Each year’s complete record is printed separately below, carrying only that year’s own published figures and source. Nothing is copied across from a neighbouring year.
| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Cargo (CCC) | Dry tongue | Length | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 5,825 | Disputed | 1,275 | 685 | 30' 4" | up to 10 | ST205/75R14'D' |
| 2025 | 5,750 | 7,500 | 1,750 | 710 | 30' 4" | up to 10 | ST205/75R14'D' |
| 2026 | 5,790 | 7,600 | 1,810 | 705 | 30' 4" | up to 10 | ST205/75R14'D' |
| 2027 | 5,975 | 7,600 | 1,625 | 745 | 30' 4" | up to 10 | ST205/75R14'D' |
Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page for that year. Jayco titles its 2024, 2025 and 2026 model pages for this floorplan Jay Flight SLX 261BHS. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2027 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2027 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.
2024 GVWR for the 261BHS: Jayco’s own figures do not agree
Jayco’s 2024 model page prints an unloaded vehicle weight of 5,825 lb, a cargo carrying capacity of 1,275 lb and a GVWR of 7,500 lb for the 261BHS. Unloaded weight plus cargo capacity comes to 7,100 lb, which is 400 lb less than that GVWR, and nothing on the page says which figure is wrong. Jayco’s 2024 Jay Flight SLX brochure lists this floorplan as 261BH and prints every weight in that row as “TBD”, so no second Jayco document gives a figure to check these against. Under this site’s rule for published figures that do not reconcile, a gap of more than 100 lb means the GVWR is disputed rather than given as a rating: the 2024 row in the table above reads “Disputed” and the 2024 page sets out every figure exactly as printed. The weight label and VIN placard on the trailer itself govern, not the model page and not this catalogue.

What changed for the 2024 model year
2024 is the earliest model year of the 261BHS on this site, so there is no earlier record to set it against. Section 01 compares it with 2025.
GVWR for 2024: Jayco’s own figures do not agree
Jayco’s own 2024 model page prints, for the 2024 261BHS, an unloaded vehicle weight of 5,825 lb, a cargo carrying capacity of 1,275 lb and a GVWR of 7,500 lb. Unloaded weight plus cargo capacity comes to 7,100 lb, which is 400 lb less than that GVWR. Jayco’s 2024 Jay Flight SLX brochure lists this floorplan as 261BH and prints every weight in that row as “TBD”, so no second Jayco document gives a figure to check these against. Nothing on that page says which of the three is wrong, and this catalogue cannot tell. Under this site’s rule for published figures that do not reconcile, a gap of more than 100 lb means the GVWR is not given here as a usable rating: the GVWR rows for this model year read “Disputed” and no tow check is offered for it. All three figures above are reproduced exactly as Jayco printed them and none has been adjusted. The weight label and VIN placard on the trailer itself state its GVWR and govern, not the model page and not this page — read them, and weigh the loaded trailer, before towing it.
Source for 2024. Specifications reflect the 2024 model year as published by Jayco on its own 2024 model page for this floorplan, which Jayco titles Jay Flight SLX 261BHS, and are dry factory figures for a base unit. Options, dealer-installed equipment and cargo all add weight. A travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle, so the loaded tongue must be checked against the receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against its tow rating. CamperTrailers.com publishes verified manufacturer data and is not affiliated with Jayco, Inc. The published GVWR for this model year is disputed by Jayco’s own figures and is not given here as a rating; the trailer’s weight label and VIN placard govern.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (7,600 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (1,140 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433).

Layout descriptions are decoded from Jayco's own floorplan-code suffixes (BH bunkhouse, MB Murphy bed, RLS rear living, QB queen bed, TBS two-bedroom slide, and so on). They describe the code, not a measured interior: this site publishes no interior dimensions for this line and therefore no floorplan diagrams.
04 Reading these numbers
Cargo capacity in context
GVWR minus dry weight is 1,625 lbs on this plan, 21% of the loaded rating. Across the 56 MY2027 Jay Flight floorplans this site carries, the same figure runs from 18% to 38%. Dry weight is a base-unit number: options, batteries and a full propane bottle all come out of the cargo figure, not the dry one.
Axle count — aggregator data corrected
Jayco's own factory page for the 261BHS lists it as a 2-axle unit, and its mandatory equipment package is the double-axle package. Factory data outranks aggregator data here, so this page publishes 2. The discrepancy is recorded rather than quietly dropped: anyone cross-checking against that aggregator will see one axle and should not trust it on this line.
Eastern and western builds differ
Jayco builds this floorplan at two plants and publishes separate figures for each. The 261BHS is 210 lbs heavier dry than the 261BHSW (5,975 vs 5,765), and the fresh tank differs too (52 gal vs 76 gal). Neither number is a typo for the other — check which build a given unit is.
The same floorplan under its pre-2027 name
Jayco sold this floorplan as the Jay Flight SLX 261BHS through model year 2026 and has called the line Jay Flight from 2027 on. The 2026 row above is read from Jayco’s own page for the SLX-badged trailer, so it is this floorplan, not a different trailer. This site used to carry a separate Jay Flight SLX 261BHS entry, built before the rename was measured, with the same 2026 factory record (5,790 lb dry); that address now leads to this page.
What this page does not publish
Every figure on this page is from Jayco’s own 2027 model page for this floorplan, tongue weight, tire size and axle count included. Jayco publishes no room-by-room interior dimensions, which is why this page carries no floorplan diagram.
05 How it compares
5,770 lbs dry against this plan's 5,975, 29' 10" of length, sleeps 6, from $41,393. The nearest lighter floorplan in the MY2027 line.
6,205 lbs dry, 7,900 lbs GVWR, sleeps 6, from $41,031. The nearest heavier floorplan — 230 lbs more trailer than this one.
The same floorplan from Jayco's other plant: 5,765 lbs dry, 7,600 lbs GVWR, 76 gal fresh, from $38,406.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 52-gallon fresh tank is about 432 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.2), 27% of the Jay Flight 261BHS’s 1,625 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,193 lb (119 lb per rated berth). Across 123 Jay Flight floorplans the water share runs 13% to 47%, and 59 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Jay Flight 285BHS at 26% and Jay Flight 280RKS at 27%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.3).
