01 What makes it unique
The Jayco Jay Flight 170FQ is a 21' 5" travel trailer in the MY2027 Jay Flight roster. Jayco publishes a dry weight of 3,060 pounds against a 3,850-pound GVWR, and the two tie out exactly with the published 790-pound cargo carrying capacity — 3,060 + 790 = 3,850. That arithmetic is checked on every plan in this catalogue, and a plan whose own figures disagree is catalogued without a page rather than quietly reconciled.
The dry tongue weight is 275 pounds, or 9% of the dry weight. Tongue load transfers to the hitch and the rear axle, and a weight-distributing hitch redistributes it rather than removing it. Payload is 790 pounds, 21% of GVWR — that is the ceiling for water, propane, cargo and any dealer-fitted equipment combined. Fresh water alone at 30 gallons is about 249 pounds when full.
Tanks are 30 gallons fresh, 19.9 grey and 19.9 black. Interior height is 6' 6" and the exterior measures 8' 0" wide. Jayco publishes two exterior heights for this floorplan: 9' 5" at the roofline and 10' 1" with the air conditioner. Both are printed above, neither is derived from the other, and it is the taller figure that has to clear your garage. This page covers the MY2027 170FQ only. Jayco’s figures move between model years — measured on one Jayco floorplan across five consecutive years, 20 of 28 published fields changed, including a 290-pound swing in dry hitch weight — so nothing here is carried over from a neighbouring year, and no year is shown that Jayco has not published for this code.

Specifications by model year
This floorplan has a published factory record for 3 model years here, 2025 to 2027. The specification does not hold still: dry weight runs from 3,020 lb (2026) to 3,060 lb (2027); dry tongue weight runs from 255 lb (2025) to 275 lb (2027). The published sleeping capacity changes across the years: up to 3 in 2025, up to 4 in 2026–2027. Each year’s complete record is printed separately below, carrying only that year’s own published figures and source. Nothing is copied across from a neighbouring year.
| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Cargo (CCC) | Dry tongue | Length | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 3,035 | 3,850 | 815 | 255 | 21' 5" | up to 3 | ST205/75R14'D' |
| 2026 | 3,020 | 3,850 | 830 | 265 | 21' 5" | up to 4 | ST205/75R14'D' |
| 2027 | 3,060 | 3,850 | 790 | 275 | 21' 5" | up to 4 | ST205/75R14'D' |
Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page for that year. Jayco titles its 2025 and 2026 model pages for this floorplan Jay Flight SLX 170FQ. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2027 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2027 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.

What changed for the 2025 model year
2025 is the earliest model year of the 170FQ on this site, so there is no earlier record to set it against. Section 01 compares it with 2026.
Source for 2025. Specifications reflect the 2025 model year as published by Jayco on its own 2025 model page for this floorplan, which Jayco titles Jay Flight SLX 170FQ, and are dry factory figures for a base unit. Options, dealer-installed equipment and cargo all add weight. A travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle, so the loaded tongue must be checked against the receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against its tow rating. Dry weight plus cargo capacity ties out exactly to the published GVWR for this model year. CamperTrailers.com publishes verified manufacturer data and is not affiliated with Jayco, Inc.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (3,850 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (578 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433).
03 The Jay Flight floorplan family
Jay Flight is a line Jayco says has been the top-selling travel trailer for 15 consecutive years (RV News, 26 May 2026), and the MY2027 range is its 25th-anniversary model year. For 2027 Jayco markets the whole value range under the single Jay Flight name; through MY2026 the same floorplans were badged Jay Flight SLX, and codes that appear under both badges are catalogued once, at the current name. Eastern and western builds are listed separately, the western plans carrying a W suffix. The 170FQ on this page is highlighted; every other profiled plan links to its own page.

Rows are Jay Flight floorplans profiled on this site. Weights, tanks, sleeping capacity, length and height are checked against Jayco’s own published figures where a same-year record is on file, any of those figures that only a dealer listing printed has been removed, and equipment details such as width, refrigerator, awnings and A/C have not yet been re-checked. Plans marked MY2027 from Jayco's factory record were captured from the manufacturer's own floorplan pages. Additional Jay Flight floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.
04 Notes on this floorplan
Figures are Jayco’s own, and they tie out
Dry 3,060 lb + cargo 790 lb = GVWR 3,850 lb exactly. Nothing on this page is computed from the other two, estimated from the segment, or taken from a dealer listing.
Dry means empty, and you will not tow it empty
3,060 lb is the unit as built, before water, propane, batteries, cargo or dealer-installed options. Weigh the loaded trailer on a public scale before matching it to a tow vehicle.
Tongue load rides the rear axle
275 lb dry tongue transfers to the hitch and the rear axle. A weight-distributing hitch moves that load around; it does not make it disappear.
The same trailer was badged SLX through MY2026
Jayco folded the Jay Flight SLX range into the Jay Flight name for MY2027. Where a floorplan code appears under both badges it is catalogued once, at the current name, rather than given two pages. Figures on this page are the MY2027 record only.
What this page does not publish
Jayco’s factory spec table for this floorplan carries no slide count, no bed size, no refrigerator or air-conditioner spec, no tire size and no MSRP. Those rows are absent here rather than filled from a sibling floorplan or a second source. Jayco’s published awning length is held in this catalogue’s saved copy of the factory page but not printed, because the catalogue tracks no awning field to print it into.
05 How it compares
Dry 2,940 lb against this plan’s 3,060 lb — 120 lb less to tow.
Dry 3,180 lb against this plan’s 3,060 lb — 120 lb more to tow.
Every Jay Flight floorplan catalogued here, with the plans this site refuses to publish and the reason for each.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 30-gallon fresh tank is about 249 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.2), 32% of the 170FQ’s 790 lb cargo capacity, leaving 541 lb (135 lb per rated berth). Across 123 Jay Flight floorplans the water share runs 13% to 47%, and 31 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Jay Flight 235MBH at 31% and Jay Flight 274BH at 32%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.3).
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Jay Flight 170FQW, nearest on the published figures.
