Airstream Weights and Lengths: Every Travel Trailer Floorplan Compared

Every Airstream travel trailer this site profiles, with Airstream’s own published weights and dimensions, how long each one really is, and how much it can carry.

Short answer. Airstream’s published unit base weights run from 2,700 lb (Basecamp 16X, 16' 2") to 8,550 lb (Classic 33FB, 33' 3"), median 6,000 lb across the 29 floorplans here (n=29, 8 lines). Published GVWRs run 3,500–10,000 lb (median 7,300). Overall lengths run from 16' 2" to 33' 3", and most floorplans are longer than the number in their name.

Every Airstream floorplan here, shortest first

27 rows are Airstream’s own 2027 specification table as printed on each floorplan page; the other 2 are the page’s headline record for the model year shown. A year Airstream has not published for a floorplan is not filled from another year. Weights are Airstream’s “unit base weight” (with LP and batteries) and “net carrying capacity”. Heights are printed exactly as Airstream words them, because the wording differs from line to line (with or without the roof air conditioner, with a lift kit).

Model number vs real length

The two-digit number in an Airstream code is a nominal size, not a measurement. Of the 29 floorplans here whose code starts with a number, 28 are longer overall than it, by a median of 0' 11" (largest 1' 5"). A “27” is 28' 2" long as published. Campground, storage and ferry limits are set on overall length, so use the published figure.

Widths are as published (n=29); the narrowest, 7′ 0″, is Basecamp 16X. Every Airstream here is narrower than 102 inches, the width federal rules set for the National Network of highways; the camper trailer size chart quotes the rule and compares other makers. Of the 29 published heights, 29 mention the roof air conditioner and 3 a lift kit, so the table above prints each one verbatim rather than comparing them as numbers.

How much you can load

Net carrying capacity is what Airstream allows on top of the unit base weight: water, food, gear and people’s belongings. Across the 29 floorplans here that publish it, the median is 1,200 lb (range 350–2,150). The smallest is the Bambi 16RB at 350 lb. Its 23-gallon fresh tank, full, holds about 191 lb of water at the 8.3 lb per gallon that federal labelling rules use, and those rules count on-board water as cargo (49 CFR 571.110), so a full tank uses 55% of that capacity before anything else goes in.

Published hitch weights run 450–1,200 lb (median 850, n=29). Airstream prints them as a plain hitch weight without saying whether the trailer is empty or loaded; loaded tongue weight runs higher, and it counts against your tow vehicle’s payload. Tow match checks a published GVWR against your own vehicle’s ratings.

Bands with at least 3 Airstream floorplans and 5 others. The two figures are on different bases: Airstream’s includes LP and batteries, the others are labelled dry by their makers (1,171 travel trailers; Keystone prints no dry weight and is absent). Part of the gap is therefore LP and batteries, and how much is not published. The camper trailer weight chart has every length band, and weights by brand compares makers.

Common questions

How much does an Airstream weigh?

Airstream publishes a unit base weight (with LP and batteries) for every floorplan. Across the 29 Airstream travel trailers here (n=29), it runs from 2,700 lb (Basecamp 16X) to 8,550 lb (Classic 33FB), median 6,000 lb. Published GVWRs run from 3,500 to 10,000 lb.

What is the smallest Airstream travel trailer?

Among the 29 Airstream floorplans profiled here, the shortest is the Basecamp 16X at 16' 2" overall, with a 2,700 lb unit base weight. The lightest by unit base weight is the Basecamp 16X (2,700 lb).

Is a 27-foot Airstream really 27 feet long?

No. The number in an Airstream floorplan code is a nominal size. Of the 29 floorplans here whose code starts with a number, 28 are longer overall than that number; the median difference is 0' 11". Use the published overall length for campsites, storage and ferries.

How much does an Airstream Bambi weigh?

The Bambi floorplans here publish unit base weights of 3,150 lb (Bambi 16RB, 2027), 3,900 lb (Bambi 20FB, 2027), 3,850 lb (Bambi 22FB, 2027). Each page lists GVWR, hitch weight and tanks alongside.

Is Airstream unit base weight the same as dry weight?

Not quite. Airstream labels its figure a unit base weight with LP and batteries, while most makers print a dry or unloaded weight. Compare the two only with that difference in mind, and plan a tow against GVWR, not either one.

Figures on this page are computed from the site’s own verified-specs dataset (1,835 floorplans; generated 2026-11-04), which is read from the floorplan pages and their named manufacturer and dealer-network sources. Dry, hitch and pin weights are as published, before options, water and cargo. Two published hitch figures that are physically implausible are printed on their pages with a flag and left out of every statistic here (conflicts). How the data is verified. Built 4 Nov 2026.
