01 What makes it unique
The 28RB is the most recent addition to the Classic line and its most compact floor plan — a way into Airstream's flagship without committing to a 31- or 33-foot trailer. It puts a rear queen (or twins) under panoramic windows, a powered convertible dinette and lounge up front that add sleeping space, and a bathroom-and-shower split across the aisle. Alone in the Classic line it sleeps five, which makes it the family-capable flagship.
What sets the Classic apart from every other Airstream rides underneath and through the walls: standard Michelin LT225/75R16 tires on 16-inch wheels — larger than the 15-inch wheels the rest of the fleet uses — a 50-amp SmartPlug service, a 300W solar package feeding two 100Ah heated lithium batteries, the Dexter Tow Assist ABS and sway-mitigation system by Bosch, and a hand-painted chassis. Inside, hand-crafted Shaker cabinetry, Corian counters, a residential bath, and MyAirstream connected technology come standard, not as options.
The compromise the 28RB makes for its length is tankage and capacity: 39 gallons of fresh water and an 8.2 cu ft refrigerator are smaller than the 53-gallon tanks and 9.7 cu ft fridge in the 30RB and 33FB, and its 8,800-pound GVWR is lower than the 10,000-pound rating of the larger plans. In return it tows easier and parks more readily while keeping the full Classic standard-feature set. MSRP starts at $181,300, the entry point to the line.

03 Classic floorplan family
The Classic line — three dual-axle floorplans from a 28-foot rear-bath layout to the 33-foot flagship, each offered in queen or twin bedroom configurations. The 28RB on this page is highlighted; each other plan links to its own profile.
| Floorplan | Nominal | Bedroom | Sleeps | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28RB | 29 ft | Rear | 5 | Newest plan; smaller tanks; sleeps 5 |
| 30RB | 31 ft | Rear | 4 | 53-gal tanks; most payload in line |
| 33FB | 33 ft | Front | 4 | Flagship; every feature standard |
A fourth Classic-tier trailer, the Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Limited Edition 28RB, is a separate 200-unit limited edition on its own lighter chassis with a king-convertible bedroom; it is documented on its own page.
04 What owners & reviewers report
Family-capable flagship
The only Classic that sleeps five, thanks to the powered front lounge and convertible dinette — the fully-loaded feature set in a layout that takes more than two.
Full Classic standard kit
Nothing is decontented for the shorter body: 16" Michelins, 50-amp service, solar + lithium, ABS sway control, Shaker cabinetry, and a residential bath are all standard.
Smaller tanks than its siblings
39-gallon fresh and an 8.2 cu ft fridge trail the 53-gallon, 9.7 cu ft 30RB and 33FB — plan dump and resupply stops accordingly on longer trips.
Hitch figure varies by source
Dealer listings cite an 830 lb hitch-weight capacity; some sticker data lists 875 lb actual — confirm against the unit's door-jamb placard.
05 How it compares
The same rear-bath length on the road-going 15" chassis — far lighter and tens of thousands less, but without the Classic's standard solar, lithium, ABS, and residential finishes.
Two feet longer with full 53-gallon tanks, a 9.7 cu ft fridge, a 10,000 lb GVWR, and the most payload in the line — though it sleeps four, not five.
A 200-unit limited edition at the same nominal length on a lighter chassis, with a king-convertible bedroom and Wright-inspired interior.
