01 What makes it unique
The 23FB is the compact, more accessible Trade Wind, introduced for 2025 as a shorter companion to the original 25FB. Crucially, it does not cut the off-grid hardware: it carries the same chassis-integrated 810Ah heated lithium battery bank, the same 3,000W inverter, and the same solar charging — four times the battery capacity of a typical Airstream — in a 23-foot body with a front queen (or twins), a U-shaped convertible dinette, and a residential rear bath with a separate shower stall. It sleeps four.
It's built to leave the campground behind: a 3-inch off-road lift, two torsion axles with shock absorbers, 16-inch all-terrain tires, and a tankless on-demand LP water heater for unlimited hot water off-grid. Where the design lines go powered, the Trade Wind keeps a manual awning and manual stabilizers — fewer things to fail far from help — and adds a standard rearview camera and an integrated winterization kit for cold-weather use.
The trade-off for all that battery and gear is payload: at 5,650 pounds dry against a 6,300-pound GVWR, net cargo is only around 650 pounds, so load deliberately. At $120,900 it lists about $10,000 under the 25FB — the shorter body is the saving, not the systems, which makes it the most affordable way into serious off-grid Airstream travel.

03 Trade Wind floorplan family
The current Trade Wind line — two dual-axle off-grid floorplans, each offered in queen or twin bedroom configurations. The 23FB on this page is highlighted.
| Floorplan | Nominal | Bedroom | Sleeps | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23FB | 23 ft | Front | 4 | Compact off-grid; $10k less; no rear door |
| 25FB | 25 ft | Front | 4 | Original; rear hatch optional; more payload |
A third plan — the Trade Wind 27FB — was revealed in spring 2026 and joins the line for Model Year 2027 with an expanded layout and energy system; its full specifications publish once it reaches production.
04 What owners & reviewers report
Most off-grid-capable Airstream
An 810Ah heated Battle Born lithium bank, a 3,000W inverter, roof solar, and a DC-to-DC charger let it run the A/C and microwave off battery with no shore power.
Same systems, smaller body
Carries the full 810Ah / 3,000W / solar package of the 25FB — the $10k saving comes from length, not capability.
Built for off-road
A 3" lift, 16" all-terrain tires, and torsion axles with shocks take it past the campground.
Watch the payload
About 650 lb of net cargo — the heavy battery system eats into capacity, so pack deliberately.
05 How it compares
The same length without the off-grid system or lift — much lighter, far more payload, and thousands less.
Two feet longer with more payload, an 8 cu ft fridge, and the optional rear hatch.
A coastal-design trailer on the road-going chassis if you camp mostly with hookups.
