01 What makes it unique
The Lance Travel Trailer 1685 leaves Lance's factory at 4,225 lbs dry, with a published GVWR of 6,300 lbs and 2,075 lbs of cargo capacity between the two. Cargo capacity is 33% of the loaded rating, and cargo capacity is what remains for fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory. Fresh water alone is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling this trailer's 45-gallon fresh tank spends 374 lbs of that 2,075 lbs before anything else is loaded.
Tongue weight is 550 lbs, 13% of the dry weight as published; it rises as the trailer is loaded and counts against the tow vehicle’s tongue-weight and payload limits (tongue weight by size).
Off hookups: 80 gallons of grey and black capacity against 45 gallons of fresh water, so fresh water runs out first (tank sizes by length).
Against the rest of the Lance Travel Trailer roster this is the 1st of 8 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 4,225 lbs to 6,400 lbs. It is the lightest plan in the line, which makes it the one to look at first if the tow vehicle is the constraint.
Plan the tow on loaded weight, not the 4,225 lbs dry figure: half the published cargo capacity brings this plan to about 5,263 lbs, and the published GVWR of 6,300 lbs is the limit (how to read trailer weights).
Every number above was read from one factory document: Lance's own 2026 brochure for this line, and each figure was read back against that document's text before it was published. This is a single-channel record rather than the two-page cross-check this site runs on saved factory web pages, and it is described that way rather than dressed up as more. Dry weight plus cargo capacity also equals the published GVWR exactly, which is the arithmetic check this site runs on every profiled floorplan. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because the brochure does not publish it, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.
This page carries no floorplan description for this plan - only the brochure's numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 1685 is a Lance Travel Trailer designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.
How the 1685 differs from the other seven Lance Travel Trailer floorplans. Most distinctive first. How these ranks are worked out.
- Dry weight, 4,225 lb: lightest of eight; next is the 2075 (4,425 lb).

- Cargo capacity, 2,075 lb: smallest of eight; next is the 2075 (2,375 lb).
- Length, 21 ft 5 in: shortest of eight; next is the 1985 (23 ft 8 in).
- Exterior height, 10 ft 2 in: lowest of eight; next are the 1985, 1995 and two others (10 ft 3 in).
- Cargo capacity as a share of GVWR, 32.9%: third-smallest of eight, between the 2255 (32.2%) and the 2565 (34.7%).
- Tongue weight, 550 lb: third-lightest of eight, between the 2075 (505 lb) and the 2255 (590 lb).
- Tongue weight as a share of dry weight, 13%: fourth-largest of eight, between the 2075 (11.4%) and the 2465 (14.1%).
Next to the 2075, the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 1685 is 200 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 500 lb lower, has 300 lb less cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 45 lb heavier, is 3 ft 8 in shorter and stands 1 in lower; the two publish the same fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (6,300 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (945 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433).
03 The Lance Travel Trailer floorplan family
These are Lance's travel trailers as its 2026 travel-trailer brochure prints them. The brochure carries a specification block for 10 floorplans; 8 are profiled here, from 4,225 lb dry (1685, 21' 5" overall) to 6,400 lb dry (2465, 29' 10" overall), with hitch weights of 475 to 905 lb. Dry weight plus cargo capacity (total) equals the printed GVWR exactly on 10 of 10.

Every figure on this line comes from Lance's 2026 travel-trailer brochure, read 4 Nov 2026. 2285 and 2445 print the gray tank as a split figure rather than one capacity, so they are catalogued with their weights rather than profiled. The lancecamper.com travel-trailer roster lists 1475 and 1575, which have no specification block in the 2026 brochure; the brochure carries 2185, 2255, 2285 and 2445, which the web roster does not list.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What the brochure's specification block does not print
Lance's 2026 brochure specification blocks print no tire size, axle count, awning length or MSRP, so they are absent here rather than estimated. Sleeping capacity is shown as the brochure prints it, a minimum / optional-maximum pair. A tire size is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
Awning size
The 2026 brochure's specification blocks print no awning length; its feature table lists electric awnings as optional equipment.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. Lance's brochure states that refinements and changes may be made during the model year and that the product received may not match its marketing materials exactly, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move a trailer's weight. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.
05 How it compares
4,425 lbs dry, 200 lbs more than this plan, and 2,375 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 2,075 lbs.
3,050 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 8 Lance Travel Trailer floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 45-gallon fresh tank is about 374 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.2), 18% of the 1685’s 2,075 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,702 lb (340 lb per rated berth). Across 8 Lance Travel Trailer floorplans the water share runs 12% to 18%, and this plan’s is the highest. Nearest on that share: Lance Travel Trailer 2075 at 16%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.3).
