01 What makes the 2025 40LOFT different
The Jay Flight Bungalow 40LOFT is one of Jayco's Jay Flight Bungalow destination trailers, the largest and most residential end of the Jay Flight range, built to be parked for a season rather than moved every weekend. This page covers one model year of it — the 2025 40LOFT, exactly as Jayco published it — because the numbers that decide whether your truck can pull this trailer are not the same from one year to the next. Jayco publishes it at 8' 6" wide closed and 13' 6" with the slide-outs run out for the 2025 model year, which is the measurement that matters for a site pitch as well as for the road.
For the 2025 model year Jayco published a 13,950-pound GVWR on a 11,925-pound dry weight, 2,025 pounds of published cargo capacity, a 1,595-pound dry tongue weight. That dry tongue is 13% of the dry weight, inside the 10–15% band conventionally quoted for a bumper-pull trailer. Tongue weight is not fixed — it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A tongue load in that range wants a weight-distribution hitch, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit — check the loaded tongue against the hitch receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against the tow rating alone. The 2025 trailer left the factory on ST235/80R16'E' tyres; the load range in that code is part of the axle rating and a replacement set has to match it.
Against the 2024 build of the same floorplan, 8 published fields moved. The full comparison is in section 02, and it is drawn from two separate verified factory records rather than from one record and an assumption about the other.
A 2025 trailer is close to current as of 2026, but section 05 still applies: check it against its build date rather than its model year. Jayco commonly builds a model year well before the calendar year turns, and the tyre date codes have to be read against the build month, not the badge.
How the 40LOFT differs from the other 122 Jay Flight floorplans. Most distinctive first. Sibling pages may cover other model years than this one (2021–2025). How these ranks are worked out.
- Dry weight, 11,925 lb: fourth-heaviest of 123, between the 402DLFT (11,910 lb) and the 40LSDL (11,940 lb).
- GVWR, 13,950 lb: fourth-highest of 123, between the 402DLFT (13,700 lb) and the 40LSDL (14,000 lb).
- Dry tongue weight, 1,595 lb: sixth-heaviest of 122, between the 40DLFT (1,550 lb) and the 40FKDS (1,600 lb).
- Exterior height, 12 ft 7 in: sixth-tallest of 109, between the 40LSDL (12 ft 4 in) and the 401LOFT, 402DLFT and 404LOFT (12 ft 10 in).

- Sleeping capacity, 8: shared with the 178DBS, 178DBSW and seventeen others; of 110, 59 smaller and 31 larger, nearest the 38BHDS, 402DLFT and 40DLFT (7) and the 264BH, 264BHW and three others (9).
Next to the 402DLFT (2027 page), the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 40LOFT is 15 lb heavier by dry weight, has a GVWR 250 lb higher, has 235 lb more cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 150 lb heavier, is 8 in shorter, stands 3 in lower, has 2 ft 3 in less interior height, has a fresh tank 1 gal smaller, has a grey tank 32.5 gal larger and sleeps one more; the two publish the same black tank.
Next to the 40LSDL (2024 page), the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 40LOFT is 15 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 50 lb lower, has 35 lb less cargo capacity, is 1 ft 1 in shorter, stands 3 in taller, has 1 in more interior height, has a fresh tank 1 gal smaller and sleeps two fewer; the two publish the same grey tank and black tank.
Specifications by model year
This floorplan has a published factory record for 4 model years here, 2021 to 2025. The specification does not hold still: GVWR runs from 13,350 lb (2021) to 13,950 lb (2025); dry weight runs from 11,345 lb (2023) to 11,925 lb (2025); dry tongue weight runs from 1,450 lb (2023) to 1,605 lb (2021). The published sleeping capacity changes across the years: 6-8 in 2021, up to 8 in 2023–2025. Each year’s complete record is printed separately below, carrying only that year’s own published figures and source. Nothing is copied across from a neighbouring year.
| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Cargo (CCC) | Dry tongue | Length | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 11,795 | 13,350 | 1,555 | 1,605 | 41' 1" | 6-8 | Not published |

| 2025 | 11,925 | 13,950 | 2,025 | 1,595 | 40' 10" | up to 8 | ST235/80R16'E' |
Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page or factory brochure for that year, as the source line for each year names. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2025 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2025 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.

What changed for the 2021 model year
2021 is the earliest model year of the 40LOFT on this site, so there is no earlier record to set it against. Section 01 compares it with 2023.
Source for 2021. Specifications reflect the 2021 model year as published by Jayco on its own 2021 factory brochure for this product line, and are dry factory figures for a base unit. Options, dealer-installed equipment and cargo all add weight. A travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle, so the loaded tongue must be checked against the receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against its tow rating. Dry weight plus cargo capacity ties out exactly to the published GVWR for this model year. CamperTrailers.com publishes verified manufacturer data and is not affiliated with Jayco, Inc.

Federal tire recalls naming this size. NHTSA’s recall file names ST235/80R16 in one tire recall: 21T018000 (Sailun Tire Americas, Inc., 2021; make SAILUN; models BLACKHAWK, BLACKLION, IRONHEAD, ROADX, SAILUN). A tire recall covers only the brands, lines and DOT date codes it lists, and this page does not know which brand of tire this trailer was built with, so read the brand and DOT code on your own sidewalls before relying on this list. Only 242 of NHTSA’s 788 tire recalls name a size in their summary, so a size with no match is not a clean record (NHTSA recall file, read 12 Oct 2026).
What changed for the 2023 model year
Between the 2021 and 2023 40LOFT, 8 of the 12 fields both records publish differ: dry weight, cargo capacity, dry tongue weight, exterior length, height with A/C, interior height, fresh tank and sleeping count. Unchanged: GVWR, exterior width, grey tank and black tank.

Published for one of the two years only: width with slides out (2023: 14' 0"); exterior height (2023: 12' 4"); tire size (2023: ST235/80R16'E'); propane (2023: 60 lbs); water heater (2023: Tankless); furnace output (2023: 35000 BTU). The 2021 figures come from the 2021 Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow factory brochure (RVUSA brochure library) and the 2023 figures from Jayco's own 2023 model page for this floorplan; the two kinds of document do not carry the same columns, so a field in only one of them is not a change to the trailer.

How these published figures sit against the rest of the catalogue: travel trailer tongue weight by size; fresh, grey and black tank sizes; camper trailer size chart.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (13,950 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (2,092 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433). The range starts at the published dry figure, because loaded is never lighter than dry.
03 What changed for the 2025 model year
Jayco changed 8 of the published fields between the 2024 and 2025 40LOFT. Every figure in both columns is that model year's own factory record — nothing here is carried across from the other year.

Every row is that model year's own factory record, and each year links to its own page. The fuller table at the top of this page adds cargo capacity and names any model year that is deliberately not published here.
GVWR changed for 2025
GVWR was 13,350 for 2024 and is 13,950 for 2025 (+600 lb). Both figures are the manufacturer's own for their year.
Dry tongue weight changed for 2025
Dry tongue weight was 1,450 for 2024 and is 1,595 for 2025 (+145 lb). Both figures are the manufacturer's own for their year.
Where these numbers come from
Every figure on this page is read from Jayco's own 2025 model page for the 40LOFT — one source, one model year, no blending. The all-years parent page sets this year beside every other model year we hold, and where the record this catalogue originally profiled disagrees with Jayco's own model page, both figures are published there and neither is adjusted.
Fields Jayco does not publish for 2025
For this model year the factory record omits: Propane Unit (lbs) (Optional), Furnace, Auto-ignition (BTU output), # of outside storage compartments. Those rows read “Not published” on this page. They are deliberately not filled in from an adjacent model year — a neighbouring year's figure is an inference about this one, not a measurement of it.
04 Buying a 2025 40LOFT at 1 model years old
Tyres are the first thing to age out
RV tyres are usually replaced on age rather than tread, at roughly five to seven years from the DOT date code on the sidewall. On a 1-year-old trailer the originals (ST235/80R16'E') may still be fitted — read the four-digit date code, not the tread.
Roof and seam sealant is on a service interval
Travel trailers rely on sealant at every roof penetration, along the front cap and around every window and marker light. Inspection is typically annual and re-sealing every few years; ask for the service records rather than assuming.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every weight on this page is a DRY factory figure for the 2025 model year. A used trailer carries its previous owner's additions, and a travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle. Weigh the loaded rig at a public scale and check it against the tow vehicle's payload, rear-axle and hitch ratings.

Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Jay Flight line page.
