01 What makes the 2026 40RLTS different
The Jay Flight Bungalow 40RLTS is one of Jayco's Jay Flight Bungalow destination trailers, the largest and most residential end of the Jay Flight range, built to be parked for a season rather than moved every weekend. This page covers one model year of it — the 2026 40RLTS, exactly as Jayco published it — because the numbers that decide whether your truck can pull this trailer are not the same from one year to the next. Jayco publishes it at 8' 6" wide closed and 14' 0" with the slide-outs run out for the 2026 model year, which is the measurement that matters for a site pitch as well as for the road.
For the 2026 model year Jayco published a 13,500-pound GVWR on a 11,560-pound dry weight, 1,940 pounds of published cargo capacity, a 1,630-pound dry tongue weight. That dry tongue is 14% of the dry weight, inside the 10–15% band conventionally quoted for a bumper-pull trailer. Tongue weight is not fixed — it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A tongue load in that range wants a weight-distribution hitch, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit — check the loaded tongue against the hitch receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against the tow rating alone. The 2026 trailer left the factory on ST235/80R16'E' tyres; the load range in that code is part of the axle rating and a replacement set has to match it.
Against the 2025 build of the same floorplan, 5 published fields moved. The full comparison is in section 02, and it is drawn from two separate verified factory records rather than from one record and an assumption about the other.
A 2026 trailer is close to current as of 2026, but section 05 still applies: check it against its build date rather than its model year. Jayco commonly builds a model year well before the calendar year turns, and the tyre date codes have to be read against the build month, not the badge.
How the 40RLTS differs from the other 122 Jay Flight floorplans. Most distinctive first. Sibling pages may cover other model years than this one (2021–2026). How these ranks are worked out.
- Dry tongue weight, 1,630 lb: third-heaviest of 122, between the 404LOFT (1,610 lb) and the JAYLOFT (1,775 lb).
- GVWR, 13,500 lb: seventh-highest of 123, between the 401LOFT (13,400 lb) and the 404LOFT (13,600 lb).
- Dry weight, 11,560 lb: eighth-heaviest of 123, between the 40FKDS (10,510 lb) and the 401LOFT (11,575 lb).

Next to the 40FKDS (2021–2024 page), the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 40RLTS is 1,050 lb heavier by dry weight, has a GVWR 500 lb higher, has 550 lb less cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 30 lb heavier, is 8 in shorter, stands 1 in taller, has a fresh tank 1 gal smaller and has a grey tank 45.5 gal smaller; the two publish the same interior height, black tank and sleeping capacity.
Next to the 401LOFT (2026–2027 page), the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 40RLTS is 15 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 100 lb higher, has 115 lb more cargo capacity, has a dry tongue weight 165 lb heavier, is 1 ft 8 in shorter, stands 9 in lower, has 10 in less interior height and sleeps four fewer; the two publish the same fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.
Specifications by model year
This floorplan has a published factory record for 5 model years here, 2021 to 2026. The specification does not hold still: GVWR runs from 13,000 lb (2021) to 13,500 lb (2026); dry weight runs from 10,555 lb (2023) to 11,560 lb (2026); dry tongue weight runs from 1,495 lb (2021) to 1,630 lb (2026). The published sleeping capacity changes across the years: 4 in 2021, up to 4 in 2023, up to 6 in 2024, up to 4 in 2025–2026. Each year’s complete record is printed separately below, carrying only that year’s own published figures and source. Nothing is copied across from a neighbouring year.

Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page or factory brochure for that year, as the source line for each year names. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2026 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2026 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.

What changed for the 2021 model year
2021 is the earliest model year of the 40RLTS on this site, so there is no earlier record to set it against. Section 01 compares it with 2023.
Source for 2021. Specifications reflect the 2021 model year as published by Jayco on its own 2021 factory brochure for this product line, and are dry factory figures for a base unit. Options, dealer-installed equipment and cargo all add weight. A travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle, so the loaded tongue must be checked against the receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against its tow rating. Dry weight plus cargo capacity ties out exactly to the published GVWR for this model year. CamperTrailers.com publishes verified manufacturer data and is not affiliated with Jayco, Inc.

Published for one of the two years only: width with slides out (2023: 14' 0"); exterior height (2023: 11' 10"); propane (2023: 60 lbs); water heater (2023: Tankless); furnace output (2023: 35000 BTU); outside storage compartments (2023: 1). The 2021 figures come from the 2021 Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow factory brochure (RVUSA brochure library) and the 2023 figures from Jayco's own 2023 model page for this floorplan; the two kinds of document do not carry the same columns, so a field in only one of them is not a change to the trailer.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (13,500 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (2,025 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433). The range starts at the published dry figure, because loaded is never lighter than dry.

| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Dry tongue | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 10,555 | 13,000 | 1,575 | 4 | Not published |

| 2026 | 11,560 | 13,500 | 1,630 | 4 | ST235/80R16'E' |
Every row is that model year's own factory record, and each year links to its own page. The fuller table at the top of this page adds cargo capacity and names any model year that is deliberately not published here.
GVWR changed for 2026
GVWR was 13,300 for 2025 and is 13,500 for 2026 (+200 lb). Both figures are the manufacturer's own for their year.
Dry tongue weight changed for 2026
Dry tongue weight was 1,515 for 2025 and is 1,630 for 2026 (+115 lb). Both figures are the manufacturer's own for their year.
Where these numbers come from
Every figure on this page is read from Jayco's own 2026 model page for the 40RLTS — one source, one model year, no blending. The all-years parent page sets this year beside every other model year we hold, and where the record this catalogue originally profiled disagrees with Jayco's own model page, both figures are published there and neither is adjusted.
Fields Jayco does not publish for 2026
For this model year the factory record omits: Propane Unit (lbs) (Optional), Furnace, Auto-ignition (BTU output). Those rows read “Not published” on this page. They are deliberately not filled in from an adjacent model year — a neighbouring year's figure is an inference about this one, not a measurement of it.
04 Buying a 2026 40RLTS today
Still in warranty
A current-model-year trailer is normally inside Jayco's structural and component warranties. Get the delivery PDI paperwork and confirm the warranty start date is the date of sale, not the date of build.
Check the build date, not the model year
Model-year 2026 units can be built well before the calendar year turns. The federal certification label inside the entry door carries the real month of manufacture, and it is what the tyre date codes should be read against.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every weight on this page is a DRY factory figure for the 2026 model year. A used trailer carries its previous owner's additions, and a travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle. Weigh the loaded rig at a public scale and check it against the tow vehicle's payload, rear-axle and hitch ratings.
05 How it compares — and to its other years
The same floorplan one model year earlier, with its own published weights.
Every Jay Flight Bungalow floorplan this catalogue holds a verified factory record for, with its own published weights.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 52-gallon fresh tank is about 432 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.2), 22% of the 40RLTS’s 1,940 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,508 lb (377 lb per rated berth). Across 123 Jay Flight floorplans the water share runs 13% to 47%, and 92 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Jay Flight 255THW at 22% and Jay Flight JAYLOFT at 22%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.3).

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 25 recall campaigns and 75 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Jay Flight line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).
What to look at on a used one. Across the 75 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are equipment (43%), unknown or other (13%) and electrical system (11%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Jay Flight line page.
