01 What the record shows

The Outback 342CG is one of the 9 floorplans Keystone published for the 2024 model year of its Outback travel-trailer line — a line built from 2005 through 2026 and since dropped from the brand's directory, which makes the used fleet the only place to find one. It is the lightest plan of the MY2024 roster and the biggest payload of the year at 2,288 pounds and the lowest published hitch weight of the year.

Keystone’s own 2024 Outback brochure table prints this plan at a weight of 8,212 pounds, a carrying capacity of 2,288 pounds and a hitch weight of 960 pounds, carries the same three figures to the pound. Keystone does not say whether its “weight” is an empty (dry) weight, and it prints no GVWR, so this page shows neither. Tanks run 54 gallons fresh, 76 grey and 38 black, and height is 11' 4" with the air conditioner.

For tow planning, treat the 960-pound hitch figure as a floor: a loaded trailer pushes tongue load higher. Keystone publishes no GVWR for this plan, so this site cannot check it against a tow vehicle; the GVWR on the trailer’s own federal weight label is the figure to hold against your tow rating, payload and receiver ratings. Because the line is out of production, the governing numbers for any specific unit are the ones on its own federal weight sticker — the record here is the published base-unit figure for the model year, the right starting point for shortlisting and the wrong substitute for weighing the actual trailer.

What Keystone’s 2024 drawing of the 342CG labels. The floorplan drawing of the 342CG in Keystone’s own 2024 Outback brochure labels a 48-inch fireplace, a king bed, bunk beds, theater seating, a sofa sleeper, a booth dinette, a table and chairs, a barn-style sliding door, a garage area, a ramp door, an entertainment center and an area labelled “wheelchair accessible”. It marks the sofa sleeper and the booth dinette as standard. A drawing label is not an equipment list, and a used trailer carries whatever its first buyer ordered, so check the unit itself.

How the 342CG differs from the other seven Outback floorplans. Most distinctive first. How these ranks are worked out.

  • Carrying capacity (Keystone’s term), 2,288 lb: largest of eight; next is the 335CG (2,151 lb).
  • Tongue weight, 960 lb: lightest of eight; next is the 332ML (1,020 lb).

How these published figures sit against the rest of the catalogue: travel trailer tongue weight by size; fresh, grey and black tank sizes; camper trailer size chart.

Towing it

Can’t check: Keystone publishes no GVWR. A tow check needs the GVWR, the most the trailer may weigh loaded, and Keystone prints none for this floorplan, so this site does not work one out. Read the GVWR on the trailer’s own federal weight label and hold it against your tow vehicle’s ratings.

03 The MY2024 Outback roster

Keystone built the Outback travel trailer from 2005 through the 2026 model year and then dropped it from the brand directory; the used fleet is what remains. MY2024 is the year profiled on this site — the newest model year for which Keystone’s own brochure table prints a weight, a carrying capacity and a hitch weight for every plan. Keystone prints no GVWR for any of them. The 342CG on this page is highlighted; each other profiled plan links to its own page. The 2025 roster grew to fourteen plans and the final 2026 year ran ten with a smaller-floorplan refresh, but neither year has a weight printed for every plan in a source this site can verify, so they are catalogued on the line hub rather than profiled.

Every MY2024 Outback in this table shares the factory's published Premium equipment set for the year: a 10.5-inch Norco BAL Z-channel huck-bolted frame, a fully walkable one-piece Alpha TPO roof under a limited lifetime warranty, a heated and enclosed underbelly with electric tank pads, tandem 5,100-pound Dexter E-Z Lube axles with 10-inch electric brakes on leaf springs, 15-inch radial tires on aluminum wheels, dual 30-pound propane bottles with auto-changeover, a Girard tankless on-demand water heater and 50-amp service (per the factory 2024 brochure's Premium standard-feature list). Weights are base-unit figures and options change them — always confirm against the unit's own federal weight sticker. The 2025 and 2026 rosters, and the 343DB conflict, are documented on the line hub.

04 Buying one used — what to check

The published record is dual-sourced

Keystone’s 2024 brochure table print the same weight, carrying capacity and hitch weight for this plan — a rare cell-for-cell match for a discontinued line. Keystone prints no GVWR; RVUSA’s record lists one under its own label, and this site does not use it.

Weigh the actual unit

The line is out of production and every surviving unit has an options history. The federal weight sticker on the trailer and a scale ticket outrank any published figure — including this page's.

Check the roof and slide seals first

The published construction set for MY2024 is a fully walkable one-piece TPO roof under a limited lifetime membrane warranty; on any used trailer of this age, roof membrane condition and slide seal condition are the two highest-cost inspection items.

Confirm the model year from the VIN

Outback rosters changed materially year to year (nine plans in 2024, fourteen in 2025, ten in the final 2026 year) — confirm the model year from the VIN plate before comparing any listing against this page.

SOURCING — figures above are the published MY2024 record (RVUSA structured specs, cross-checked against the factory brochure); condition items are general used-trailer diligence, not model-specific defect claims

11 NHTSA safety record

NHTSA holds 20 recall campaigns and 37 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Outback line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).

What to look at on a used one. Across the 37 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are structure (27%), tires (27%) and electrical system (11%).

Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Outback line page.
