01 What makes it unique
The Sandstorm 2600 leaves Forest River's factory at 9,129 lbs dry, with a published GVWR of 13,570 lbs and 4,441 lbs of cargo capacity between the two. Cargo capacity is 33% of the loaded rating, and Forest River's own definition is worth reading before you plan against it: cargo capacity is what remains for fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory. Fresh water alone is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling this trailer's 102-gallon fresh tank spends 847 lbs of that 4,441 lbs before anything else is loaded.
Tongue weight is 1,570 lbs, 17% of the dry weight as published; it rises as the trailer is loaded and counts against the tow vehicle’s tongue-weight and payload limits (tongue weight by size).
Off hookups: 122 gallons of grey and black capacity against 102 gallons of fresh water, so fresh water runs out first (tank sizes by length).
Against the rest of the Sandstorm travel-trailer roster this is the 4th of 5 travel trailers by dry weight, in a line that runs from 7,439 lbs to 9,399 lbs. It sits in the heavier third of the line.
Plan the tow on loaded weight, not the 9,129 lbs dry figure: half the published cargo capacity brings this plan to about 11,349 lbs, and the published GVWR of 13,570 lbs is the limit (how to read trailer weights).
Forest River’s line listing and this floorplan’s own factory page agree on all 4 shared figures. Dry weight plus cargo capacity equals the published GVWR exactly. A missing row means Forest River does not publish that figure (how figures are verified).
Forest River publishes no floorplan description for this plan in the channel this page is built from - only the numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 2600 is a Sandstorm designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.
How the 2600 differs from the other four Sandstorm travel trailers. Most distinctive first. How these ranks are worked out.
- Dry weight, 9,129 lb: second-heaviest of five, between the 2730 (8,429 lb) and the 2900 (9,399 lb).
- GVWR, 13,570 lb: second-highest of five, between the 2730 (13,470 lb) and the 2900 (13,855 lb).
- Cargo capacity, 4,441 lb: second-smallest of five, between the 2513 (3,771 lb) and the 2900 (4,456 lb).
- Cargo capacity as a share of GVWR, 32.7%: second-smallest of five, between the 2900 (32.2%) and the 2513 (33.1%).
- Tongue weight, 1,570 lb: second-heaviest of five, between the 2730 (1,470 lb) and the 2900 (1,855 lb).
- Length, 34 ft 9 in: second-longest of five, between the 2730 (34 ft 1 in) and the 2900 (36 ft 6 in).
- Tongue weight as a share of dry weight, 17.2%: third-smallest of five, between the 2513 (16.1%) and the 2730 (17.4%).
- Black tank, 42 gal: largest of five, level with the 2730; next are the 2215, 2513 and 2900 (40 gal).
Next to the 2730, the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 2600 is 700 lb heavier by dry weight, has a GVWR 100 lb higher, has 600 lb less cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 100 lb heavier, is 8 in longer and has a grey tank 2 gal smaller; the two publish the same exterior height, fresh tank and black tank.
Next to the 2900, the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 2600 is 270 lb lighter by dry weight, has a GVWR 285 lb lower, has 15 lb less cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 285 lb lighter, is 1 ft 9 in shorter and has a black tank 2 gal larger; the two publish the same exterior height, fresh tank and grey tank.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (13,570 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (2,036 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433). The range starts at the published figure, because loaded is never lighter than that.
The 2027 model year, as Forest River lists it
Forest River’s own floorplan page lists the 2027 Sandstorm / Stealth / Shockwave 2600 with the figures below (read 22 Oct 2026). They are that year’s record. The specifications above are the 2026 record; the two are not merged, and neither fills a gap in the other. Every weight, dimension and tank figure in it matches the 2026 record above. Unloaded weight plus cargo capacity equals the 2027 GVWR exactly.

03 The Sandstorm floorplan family
Sandstorm is a toy-hauler roster published under three badges at once, and the first useful thing to know about it is that Sandstorm, Stealth and Shockwave are the same sixteen trailers. Not similar - the same floorplan codes, the same dry weights, the same cargo capacities, the same tanks, checked field by field. So a shopper cross-shopping the three badges is cross-shopping one product, and the choice between them is a dealer question rather than a trailer question. Within that roster there are two real classes. Five plans are travel trailers, 7,439 to 9,399 lb dry with 1,155 to 1,855 lb on the tongue. Seven are fifth wheels, 9,459 to 15,749 lb dry with 2,165 to 3,765 lb on the pin. The lightest fifth wheel outweighs the heaviest bumper pull, so the two halves do not overlap and no plan here is a borderline call. Cargo capacity runs 3,281 to 5,676 lb on the fifth wheels and 3,771 to 5,300 lb on the travel trailers - the bumper pulls give up very little payload, which is unusual and is the reason to read the table rather than assume the fifth wheels carry more.

Forest River publishes this roster three times, as Sandstorm, as Stealth and as Shockwave, on three separate factory line pages with their own per-plan detail pages. All three publish the same sixteen floorplan codes and the same specifications: 295 non-null published fields on each side, GVWR on 15 of 16 on each side, and all 15 tie out exactly against dry weight plus cargo capacity. Compared field by field across all sixteen plans, Stealth and Sandstorm differ in nothing at all, and Shockwave differs in one character - it writes the 2215 awning as 18 where the other two write 18 feet. This site catalogues that as one trailer under one set of pages carrying all three names, rather than publishing three near-identical page sets; the Sandstorm badge is used for the page addresses because the three are indistinguishable on every measurable axis and something had to break the tie. Twelve of the sixteen plans are profiled. The other four are marked dealer stock only by the factory and are catalogued with their weights instead. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel, and neither is garage length or fuel-station capacity - which on a toy hauler are the two figures buyers most want, so their absence is stated here rather than filled with an estimate.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What Forest River does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not in Forest River’s specification channel for Sandstorm, so this page does not publish them and does not estimate them (how figures are verified).
Awning size is not published for this floorplan
Forest River publishes an awning size for some Sandstorm floorplans and not for this one. The row reads as unpublished rather than being filled from a neighbouring plan in the same roster.
Weigh it before you tow it
Forest River calls its unloaded weight an estimated average for a standard build, and options and dealer add-ons change it, so weigh your own trailer loaded the way you travel (how figures are verified).
05 How it compares
8,429 lbs dry against this plan's 9,129 lbs, a difference of 700 lbs.
9,399 lbs dry, 270 lbs more than this plan, and 4,456 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 4,441 lbs.
5,300 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 5 Sandstorm travel trailers profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 102-gallon fresh tank is about 847 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.2), 19% of the 2600’s 4,441 lb cargo capacity, leaving 3,594 lb. Across 5 Sandstorm travel-trailer floorplans the water share runs 16% to 22%, and 1 gives up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Sandstorm 2900 at 19% and Sandstorm 2513 at 22%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.3).
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Sandstorm 2900, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 6 of the 8 fields both publish (this plan first): length 34 ft 9 in vs 36 ft 6 in; dry weight 9,129 lb vs 9,399 lb; GVWR 13,570 lb vs 13,855 lb; cargo capacity 4,441 lb vs 4,456 lb; hitch weight 1,570 lb vs 1,855 lb; black tank 42 gal vs 40 gal. They match on fresh tank and grey tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 12 recall campaigns and 21 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Sandstorm line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).
What to look at on a used one. Across the 21 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are structure (29%), tires (14%) and unknown or other (14%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Sandstorm line page.
