01 What makes the 2023 22BH different
The Jay Feather 22BH is one of Jayco's Jay Feather travel trailers, the lightweight step-up line positioned above the value Jay Flight SLX and below the premium Eagle HT. This page covers one model year of it — the 2023 22BH, exactly as Jayco published it — because the numbers that decide whether your truck can pull this trailer are not the same from one year to the next.
For the 2023 model year Jayco published a 7,500-pound GVWR on a 5,565-pound dry weight, 1,935 pounds of published cargo capacity, a 610-pound dry tongue weight. That dry tongue is 11% of the dry weight, inside the 10–15% band conventionally quoted for a bumper-pull trailer. Tongue weight is not fixed — it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A tongue load in that range wants a weight-distribution hitch, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit — check the loaded tongue against the hitch receiver's rating and the vehicle's payload, not against the tow rating alone. The floorplan is listed, so it is named here rather than passed over in silence. Jayco’s own 2024 model page prints 5,625 lb unloaded and 1,480 lb cargo capacity for the 22BH, which add to 7,105 lb, 105 lb over the 7,000 lb GVWR it prints beside them, and nothing on the page says which is wrong; under this site’s rule a gap of more than 100 lb means the 2024 GVWR is disputed rather than given as a rating, so the 2024 row reads “Disputed” and the trailer’s own weight label and VIN placard govern. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2023 record. GVWR for 2024: Jayco’s own figures do not agree
Jayco’s own 2024 model page prints, for the 2024 22BH, an unloaded vehicle weight of 5,625 lb, a cargo carrying capacity of 1,480 lb and a GVWR of 7,000 lb. Unloaded weight plus cargo capacity comes to 7,105 lb, which is 105 lb more than that GVWR. Nothing on that page says which of the three is wrong, and this catalogue cannot tell. Under this site’s rule for published figures that do not reconcile, a gap of more than 100 lb means the GVWR is not given here as a usable rating: the GVWR rows for this model year read “Disputed” and no tow check is offered for it. All three figures above are reproduced exactly as Jayco printed them and none has been adjusted. The weight label and VIN placard on the trailer itself state its GVWR and govern, not the model page and not this page — read them, and weigh the loaded trailer, before towing it.
