01 What makes it unique
Forest River publishes a 12,234-pound unloaded weight and 1,800 pounds of cargo carrying capacity for the Puma Vista 423LFT, and prints a loaded rating on the same floorplan record that those two figures miss by 3,000 pounds. Forest River defines cargo capacity as exactly GVWR minus unloaded weight, so one of the three printed figures must be wrong, and nothing published says which; the printed GVWR is therefore not given on this page as a rating (the note below sets out all three). The dry tongue weight is 1,790 pounds before anything is loaded.
The 423LFT measures 43' 0" long, 13' 4" tall and 96" wide, and carries a 43 / 100 / 35-gallon fresh, grey and black tank set; the factory lists its awning size as TBD. Height is the number to check first on a trailer this size — measure garage doors, carports and low branches against the published 13' 4" before the first trip. The factory files this plan under “Destination Trailers w/Loft” — one of three groupings it uses inside the Vista roster. Against its neighbours on the roster, the shorter 421LFT runs 1,265 pounds heavier dry and the longer 422LFT runs 655 pounds heavier dry.
Equipment for this plan is published as 2 named packages on its factory floorplan record — the “Vista LFT Value Shopper Package” and the “Vista LFT Loft Package”, listing 22 items and 11 items respectively. The first package opens with (3) AC's, Smart TV, Tankless water heater and Washer/Dryer Prep. Package inclusion on any given unit is not asserted here and Forest River publishes no MSRP for this tier, so confirm delivered equipment and current pricing with a dealer.
How the 423LFT differs from the other 25 Puma travel trailers. Most distinctive first. Each rank counts only the siblings that publish that field, and a figure most of them share is left out.
- Length, 43 ft: second-longest of 26, between the 39BHK, 401RLFT and four others (42 ft 10 in) and the 422LFT (43 ft 1 in).
- Dry weight, 12,234 lb: sixth-heaviest of 26, between the 429LFT (12,114 lb) and the 401RLFT (12,604 lb).
- Grey tank, 100 gal: shared with the 39BHK; of 26, 23 smaller and one larger, nearest the 26FKDS, 30RKQS and eight others (70 gal) and the 39DBT (105 gal).
- Exterior height, 13 ft 4 in: tallest of 26, level with the 38VFL, 401RLFT and six others; next are the 25TH, 27TH and 29TH (12 ft 2 in).
- Cargo capacity, 1,800 lb: shared with the 337BH, 38VFL and three others; of 26, ten smaller and ten larger, nearest the 429LFT (1,786 lb) and the 420LFT (1,801 lb).
Next to the 429LFT, the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 423LFT is 120 lb heavier by dry weight, has 14 lb more cargo capacity, is 4 in longer, has a grey tank 35 gal larger and has a black tank 30 gal smaller; the two publish the same exterior height and fresh tank.
Next to the 401RLFT, the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 423LFT is 370 lb lighter by dry weight, has 504 lb more cargo capacity, is 2 in longer and has a grey tank 65 gal larger; the two publish the same exterior height, fresh tank and black tank.

03 The Puma Vista roster
Puma Vista is the destination trailer tier of Palomino’s Puma family — 15 floorplans filed by the factory under “Destination Trailers”, sold under the parent Puma line and rostered on the Puma hub’s Puma Vista section. Per this site’s family policy a factory sub-roster lives under its parent hub rather than taking a hub of its own. Two plans are published with the conflict shown rather than profiled with the rest: on 39BHK, 423LFT the factory’s own published GVWR does not equal its published dry weight plus CCC, and this site publishes that conflict rather than resolving it. Of those, the 39BHK misses by 50 lb, and all three of its figures are published in full and flagged (†), with the trailer’s weight label governing; the 423LFT misses by 3,000 lb, so its printed GVWR is shown as disputed and is not given as a rating (†).

04 Notes on this floorplan
The published set does not add up
Forest River publishes a dry weight of 12,234 lb, a cargo capacity of 1,800 lb and a GVWR of 17,034 lb for the 423LFT. Dry plus cargo comes to 14,034 lb, 3,000 lb below the printed GVWR. Forest River defines cargo capacity as exactly GVWR minus dry weight, so one of the three printed figures must be wrong, and nothing published says which. The set is shown as published and flagged. Because the gap is more than 100 lb, the printed GVWR is not given here as a usable rating: the GVWR rows on this page read “Disputed” and no tow check is offered for it. The GVWR on the trailer’s own weight label and VIN placard, and its axle ratings, govern. Weigh the unit.
A 1,790-pound dry tongue weight
This is the unloaded figure — use a weight-distributing hitch and weigh the loaded combination rather than trusting the base number.
13' 4" of height
Measure garage doors, carports, awnings and low branches against this figure before the first trip.
Sleeps, slides and axles are not published
Forest River publishes no sleeping capacity, slide count, entry count, axle count or rating, or tire size for this tier — confirm the layout and running gear on the unit itself.
Weigh the loaded trailer
Dry weight is a factory estimate for a base unit; options, water and cargo all add to it. Weigh loaded and confirm against your tow vehicle's ratings and the unit's weight sticker before purchase.
05 How it compares
-1,265 pounds lighter dry on a 1,990-pound tongue weight.
655 pounds heavier dry, 1,800 lbs of CCC.

06 Loading it for a trip
A full 43-gallon fresh tank is about 359 lb of water, 20% of the Puma Vista 423LFT’s 1,800 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,441 lb. Across 26 Puma travel-trailer floorplans the water share runs 11% to 28%, and 10 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Puma 337BH at 20% and Puma Vista 429LFT at 20%.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Puma Vista 420LFT, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 5 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): length 43 ft 0 in vs 42 ft 10 in; dry weight 12,234 lb vs 13,024 lb; cargo capacity 1,800 lb vs 1,801 lb; hitch weight 1,790 lb vs 1,890 lb; grey tank 100 gal vs 70 gal. They match on fresh tank and black tank.

09 What this page publishes, and what it does not
10 of the 18 fields this catalogue tracks are published for the Puma Vista 423LFT. Not published: interior height, sleeps, slide count, axle count, tire specification, refrigerator, air conditioning. Printed but disputed, so not given as a rating: GVWR — Forest River’s own figures for it do not reconcile (the GVWR note above sets them out).
Values marked with an asterisk are arithmetic on published figures or come from a single source; the flag travels into the downloadable spec sheet.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 21 recall campaigns and 39 owner complaints against the Puma line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.
What to look at on a used one. Across the 39 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are tires (28%), structure (21%) and equipment (15%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Puma line page.
