01 What makes it unique
The Alta 2850KRL leaves East to West's factory at 6,851 lbs dry with 2,727 lbs of cargo capacity. East to West publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 53-gallon fresh tank spends 440 lbs of the 2,727 lbs before anything else goes in.
Dry tongue weight is 778 lbs, or 11% of the dry weight. Ten to fifteen percent is the conventional band for a bumper-pull trailer, and this plan sits inside it as published. Tongue weight is not fixed: it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A weight-distribution hitch is the normal fitment at this tongue load, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit.
Tank capacities are 53 gallons fresh, 60 grey and 30 black, 90 gallons of waste capacity against 53 gallons of supply. The ratio is what governs how long the trailer can sit off hookups: waste capacity exceeds fresh, so the fresh tank is the binding constraint and refilling extends the stay. East to West publishes these three figures per floorplan, and they are the factory's numbers rather than a segment average.
Against the rest of the Alta roster this is the 8th of 16 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 3,998 lbs to 10,334 lbs. It sits in the middle of the line by weight. Comparing floorplans inside one line is more reliable than comparing across brands, because every figure here comes from the same factory channel on the same day.
A useful way to read these figures is to stop planning against the dry weight. Nobody tows a trailer at 6,851 lbs: that is the weight before water, batteries, propane, bedding, food, tools and anything the dealer bolted on. Load half the published cargo capacity and this plan is already near 8,215 lbs on the road. Because East to West publishes no loaded rating for this line, the ceiling has to come from the trailer's own weight label rather than from this page, and the comparison you make against the tow vehicle should use the loaded figure.
Every number above was captured twice from East to West and checked against itself before it was published. The line listing and the individual floorplan page are two separate factory renderings of the same trailer, and this plan's 4 shared figures agree exactly on both. There is no published GVWR on this line, so the usual arithmetic check - dry plus cargo equals the rating - has nothing to test against here. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because East to West does not publish it in this channel, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.
East to West publishes no floorplan description for this plan in the channel this page is built from - only the numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 2850KRL is a Alta designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.

03 The Alta floorplan family
Alta is the broadest roster East to West publishes, and the spread is the reason to read the table rather than the floorplan numbers. Sixteen floorplans run from 3,998 lb dry on the single-axle LE plans to 10,334 lb at the top, which is not one trailer class but three: a pair of LE models light enough to sit behind a mid-size SUV, ten mainstream tandem-axle trailers, and two toy haulers plus one Xtreme plan at the heavy end. Crucially all of them are bumper pull. Tongue weight runs 470 to 1,350 lb across the whole roster, and even the toy haulers -- which East to West groups separately -- load 1,165 to 1,350 lb onto a ball, not a pin. That matters because a toy hauler badge usually implies a fifth wheel and here it does not. Cargo capacity runs 1,202 to 4,717 lb.

Alta is East to West's core travel-trailer line, published across sixteen floorplans for 2026 in four groupings: LE travel trailers, travel trailers, toy haulers and one Xtreme plan. East to West publishes dry weight, cargo capacity, hitch weight, all three exterior dimensions and all three tank capacities for every plan on the roster. It publishes no GVWR for any of the sixteen, so the loaded rating row reads not published rather than showing dry weight plus cargo capacity added together -- that sum is an inference, not a rating, and a trailer's real limit can sit below it. One plan, 2810KIK, is marked dealer stock only and is catalogued with its weights rather than profiled. East to West is a Forest River company, but Alta is not a Forest River-badged trailer and its specifications come from East to West's own channel.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What East to West does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from East to West's specification channel for Alta, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
There is no factory GVWR for this trailer
East to West publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and dry tongue weight for every Alta floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every East to West unit carries.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. East to West's own footnote on unloaded weight calls it an estimated average based on a standard build with optional equipment, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move it. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.
05 How it compares
6,812 lbs dry against this plan's 6,851 lbs, a difference of 39 lbs. Same line, same factory channel, same model year - so the gap is a real one rather than a difference in how two brands measure.
7,343 lbs dry, 492 lbs more than this plan, and 4,222 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 2,727 lbs. Stepping up a floorplan usually buys length before it buys payload.
4,717 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 15 Alta floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 53-gallon fresh tank is about 442 lb of water, 16% of the 2850KRL’s 2,727 lb cargo capacity, leaving 2,285 lb. Across 15 Alta floorplans the water share runs 13% to 37%, and 11 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Alta 2800KBH at 16% and Alta 1900MMK at 19%.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Alta 2800KBH, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 4 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): length 33 ft 7 in vs 33 ft 8 in; dry weight 6,851 lb vs 6,812 lb; cargo capacity 2,727 lb vs 2,772 lb; dry hitch weight 778 lb vs 784 lb. They match on fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 8 recall campaigns and 4 owner complaints against the Alta line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.
Too few reports to show a pattern. 4 complaints have been filed on this line — not enough to say what fails most often. They cover tires, power train and unknown or other.
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Alta line page.
