01 What makes it unique
The Alta 2870KTH leaves East to West's factory at 8,633 lbs dry with 4,717 lbs of cargo capacity. East to West publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 110-gallon fresh tank spends 913 lbs of the 4,717 lbs before anything else goes in.
Tongue weight is 1,350 lbs, 16% of the dry weight as published; it rises as the trailer is loaded and counts against the tow vehicle’s tongue-weight and payload limits (tongue weight by size).
Off hookups: 90 gallons of grey and black capacity against 110 gallons of fresh water, so the grey and black tanks fill before the fresh tank empties (tank sizes by length).
Against the rest of the Alta roster this is the 14th of 17 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 3,998 lbs to 10,334 lbs. It sits in the heavier third of the line.
Plan the tow on loaded weight, not the 8,633 lbs dry figure: half the published cargo capacity brings this plan to about 10,991 lbs. East to West publishes no loaded rating for this line, so the ceiling is the one on the trailer’s own weight label (how to read trailer weights).
East to West’s line listing and this floorplan’s own factory page agree on all 4 shared figures. No GVWR is published for this line, so dry plus cargo has no rating to check against. A missing row means East to West does not publish that figure (how figures are verified).
East to West publishes no floorplan description for this plan in the channel this page is built from - only the numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 2870KTH is a Alta designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.
How the 2870KTH differs from the other sixteen Alta floorplans. Most distinctive first. Sibling pages may cover other model years than this one (2026). How these ranks are worked out.
- Cargo capacity, 4,717 lb: largest of seventeen; next is the 2400KTH (4,222 lb).
- Tongue weight, 1,350 lb: heaviest of seventeen; next is the 3250KXT (1,195 lb).
- Fresh tank, 110 gal: largest of seventeen; next is the 2400KTH (106 gal).
- Tongue weight as a share of dry weight, 15.6%: second-largest of seventeen, between the 3010KBH (13.7%) and the 2400KTH (15.9%).
- Exterior height, 12 ft 5 in: second-tallest of seventeen, between the 2400KTH (12 ft 4 in) and the 3250KXT (12 ft 7 in).
- Dry weight, 8,633 lb: fourth-heaviest of seventeen, between the 3010KBH (7,823 lb) and the 3150KBH (8,698 lb).
- Length, 33 ft 1 in: seventh-longest of seventeen, between the 2775KFK (32 ft) and the 2850KRL (33 ft 7 in).
Next to the 3010KBH, the nearest lighter floorplan by dry weight, the 2870KTH is 810 lb heavier by dry weight, has 2,740 lb more cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 280 lb heavier, is 2 ft 4 in shorter, stands 1 ft 1 in taller and has a fresh tank 57 gal larger; the two publish the same grey tank and black tank.
Next to the 3150KBH, the nearest heavier floorplan by dry weight, the 2870KTH is 65 lb lighter by dry weight, has 3,515 lb more cargo capacity, has a tongue weight 250 lb heavier, is 5 ft shorter, stands 1 ft taller, has a fresh tank 57 gal larger and has a grey tank 30 gal smaller; the two publish the same black tank.

The 2027 model year, as East to West lists it
East to West’s own floorplan page lists the 2027 Alta 2870KTH with the figures below (read 23 Oct 2026). They are that year’s record. The specifications above are the 2026 record; the two are not merged, and neither fills a gap in the other. Every weight, dimension and tank figure in it matches the 2026 record above. East to West publishes no GVWR for this floorplan, so none is shown and none is computed.

03 The Alta floorplan family
Alta is the broadest roster East to West publishes, and the spread is the reason to read the table rather than the floorplan numbers. Sixteen floorplans run from 3,998 lb dry on the single-axle LE plans to 10,334 lb at the top, which is not one trailer class but three: a pair of single-axle LE models, ten mainstream tandem-axle trailers, and two toy haulers plus one Xtreme plan at the heavy end. Crucially all of them are bumper pull. Tongue weight runs 470 to 1,350 lb across the whole roster, and even the toy haulers -- which East to West groups separately -- load 1,165 to 1,350 lb onto a ball, not a pin. That matters because a toy hauler badge usually implies a fifth wheel and here it does not. Cargo capacity runs 1,202 to 4,717 lb.

Alta is East to West's core travel-trailer line, published across sixteen floorplans for 2026 in four groupings: LE travel trailers, travel trailers, toy haulers and one Xtreme plan. East to West publishes dry weight, cargo capacity, hitch weight, all three exterior dimensions and all three tank capacities for every plan on the roster. It publishes no GVWR for any of the sixteen, so the loaded rating row reads not published rather than showing dry weight plus cargo capacity added together -- that sum is an inference, not a rating, and a trailer's real limit can sit below it. One plan, 2810KIK, is marked dealer stock only and is catalogued with its weights rather than profiled. East to West is a Forest River company, but Alta is not a Forest River-badged trailer and its specifications come from East to West's own channel.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What East to West does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from East to West's specification channel for Alta, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
There is no factory GVWR for this trailer
East to West publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and tongue weight for every Alta floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every East to West unit carries.
Weigh it before you tow it
East to West calls its unloaded weight an estimated average for a standard build, and options and dealer add-ons change it, so weigh your own trailer loaded the way you travel (how figures are verified).
05 How it compares
7,823 lbs dry against this plan's 8,633 lbs, a difference of 810 lbs.
8,698 lbs dry, 65 lbs more than this plan, and 1,202 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 4,717 lbs.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 110-gallon fresh tank is about 913 lb of water, 19% of the 2870KTH’s 4,717 lb cargo capacity, leaving 3,804 lb. Across 17 Alta floorplans the water share runs 13% to 37%, and 11 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Alta 1900MMK at 19% and Alta 3175RK at 20%.
07 Where this floorplan sits

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 8 recall campaigns and 2 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Alta line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).
Too few reports to show a pattern. 2 complaints have been filed on this line — not enough to say what fails most often. They cover power train and unknown or other.
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Alta line page.
