01 What makes it unique
The Campsite Reserve 39JD has 1,020 lbs of cargo capacity between 12,380 lbs dry and its 13,400 lbs GVWR, 8% of that rating; filling its 40-gallon fresh tank at 8.3 lb a gallon uses 332 lbs of it (how to read trailer weights).
Tongue weight is 1,400 lbs, 11% of the dry weight as published; it rises as the trailer is loaded and counts against the tow vehicle’s tongue-weight and payload limits (tongue weight by size).
Off hookups: 160 gallons of grey and black capacity against 40 gallons of fresh water, so fresh water runs out first (tank sizes by length).
Against the rest of the Campsite Reserve roster this is the 22nd of 22 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 3,764 lbs to 12,380 lbs. It is the heaviest plan in the line, so the tow vehicle should be settled before the floorplan is.
Plan the tow on loaded weight, not the 12,380 lbs dry figure: half the published cargo capacity brings this plan to about 12,890 lbs, and the published GVWR of 13,400 lbs is the limit (how to read trailer weights).
Forest River’s line listing and this floorplan’s own factory page agree on all 4 shared figures. Dry weight plus cargo capacity equals the published GVWR exactly. A missing row means Forest River does not publish that figure (how figures are verified).
Forest River's own description of this floorplan reads: “The first destination trailer in the Campsite Reserve brand is finally here! This unique model was designed with a sliding glass door and L-shaped sectional that make the living room feel truly expansive. This model is also highlighted by 2 queen beds and a king size bed in the primary suite.” That is the factory's marketing copy rather than a specification, and nothing in it is treated as a verified field on this page - layout descriptions, sleeping arrangements and feature claims in factory copy are not carried into the spec table unless the factory also publishes them as specifications.

Towing it
Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.
Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (13,400 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (2,010 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern.
Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433). The range starts at the published figure, because loaded is never lighter than that.
03 The Campsite Reserve floorplan family
Campsite Reserve is the widest single Forest River travel-trailer roster this site carries: dry weight runs 3,764 lb at the 16BC to 12,380 lb at the top of the loft group, and cargo capacity runs 1,020 to 4,336 lb. Tongue weight runs 431 to 1,425 lb and GVWR 5,531 to 14,000 lb. The loft plans are where the weight is -- the 39-series sits at the top of every column -- and the three toy haulers sit in the middle rather than the top, which is unusual for a line that carries both. Twenty-one of the twenty-two profileable plans tie out exactly against dry weight plus cargo capacity. The exception is 23TS, whose own arithmetic gives 7,795 lb against a published GVWR of 7,805; it is published on its own page with that disagreement stated rather than profiled with the rest.

Campsite Reserve is published in three factory groupings across twenty-three floorplans for 2026: fourteen Travel Trailers, five Travel Trailers with a loft, and three Toy Haulers. Every plan on the roster is a bumper-pull -- Forest River publishes a hitch weight, not a pin weight, on all of them, including the toy haulers -- so nothing on this line needs a fifth-wheel truck. One plan, 23CY, is marked dealer-stock-only on the factory roster and publishes no detail page, so it appears in the count of twenty-three and nowhere else on this site -- it is not catalogued and its specifications are not reproduced here. Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity, tongue weight, GVWR, all three exterior dimensions and all three tank capacities for the remaining twenty-two. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel. Twenty of the twenty-two carry no factory floorplan description.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What Forest River does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not in Forest River’s specification channel for Campsite Reserve, so this page does not publish them and does not estimate them (how figures are verified).
Awning size is not published for this floorplan
Forest River publishes an awning size for some Campsite Reserve floorplans and not for this one. The row reads as unpublished rather than being filled from a neighbouring plan in the same roster.
Weigh it before you tow it
Forest River calls its unloaded weight an estimated average for a standard build, and options and dealer add-ons change it, so weigh your own trailer loaded the way you travel (how figures are verified).
05 How it compares
12,194 lbs dry against this plan's 12,380 lbs, a difference of 186 lbs.
4,336 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 22 Campsite Reserve floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 40-gallon fresh tank is about 332 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.2), 33% of the 39JD’s 1,020 lb cargo capacity, leaving 688 lb. Across 22 Campsite Reserve floorplans the water share runs 8% to 34%, and 1 gives up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Campsite Reserve 26RM at 30% and Campsite Reserve 26CJ at 34%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.120 S10.4.3).
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Campsite Reserve 39IB, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 6 of the 8 fields both publish (this plan first): length 43 ft 4 in vs 44 ft 6 in; dry weight 12,380 lb vs 11,039 lb; GVWR 13,400 lb vs 14,000 lb; cargo capacity 1,020 lb vs 2,961 lb; hitch weight 1,400 lb vs 1,100 lb; black tank 80 gal vs 70 gal. They match on fresh tank and grey tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 3 recall campaigns and 1 owner complaint (model years 2005 on) against the Campsite Reserve line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).
Too few reports to show a pattern. 1 complaint has been filed on this line — not enough to say what fails most often. It covers structure.
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Campsite Reserve line page.
