01 What makes it unique

The Campsite Reserve 23TS leaves Forest River's factory at 5,393 lbs dry, and Forest River publishes 2,402 lbs of cargo capacity and a GVWR of 7,805 lbs for it. Those three figures do not reconcile: dry weight plus cargo capacity comes to 7,795 lbs, 10 lb below the published GVWR, and every figure here is reproduced exactly as Forest River published it rather than adjusted to close the gap. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water alone is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling this trailer's 52-gallon fresh tank spends 432 lbs of that 2,402 lbs before anything else is loaded.

Dry tongue weight is 805 lbs, or 15% of the dry weight. Ten to fifteen percent is the conventional band for a bumper-pull trailer, and this plan sits inside it as published. Tongue weight is not fixed: it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A weight-distribution hitch is the normal fitment at this tongue load, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit.

Tank capacities are 52 gallons fresh, 38 grey and 28 black, 66 gallons of waste capacity against 52 gallons of supply. The ratio is what governs how long the trailer can sit off hookups: waste capacity exceeds fresh, so the fresh tank is the binding constraint and refilling extends the stay. Forest River publishes these three figures per floorplan, and they are the factory's numbers rather than a segment average.

Against the rest of the Campsite Reserve roster this is the 9th of 22 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 3,764 lbs to 12,380 lbs. It sits in the middle of the line by weight. Comparing floorplans inside one line is more reliable than comparing across brands, because every figure here comes from the same factory channel on the same day.

A useful way to read these figures is to stop planning against the dry weight. Nobody tows a trailer at 5,393 lbs: that is the weight before water, batteries, propane, bedding, food, tools and anything the dealer bolted on. Load half the published cargo capacity and this plan is already near 6,594 lbs on the road. Because Forest River's own published figures for this plan do not reconcile, the ceiling to plan against is the one on the trailer's own weight label and VIN placard, and the comparison you make against the tow vehicle should use the loaded figure.

Every number above was captured twice from Forest River and checked against itself before it was published. The line listing and the individual floorplan page are two separate factory renderings of the same trailer, and this plan's 4 shared figures agree exactly on both. Dry weight plus cargo capacity does not equal the GVWR Forest River prints for this plan - the arithmetic check this site runs on every floorplan fails here by 10 lb - and the disagreement is published on this page rather than resolved. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because Forest River does not publish it in this channel, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.

Forest River publishes no floorplan description for this plan in the channel this page is built from - only the numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 23TS is a Campsite Reserve designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.

How the 23TS differs from the other 21 Campsite Reserve floorplans. Most distinctive first. Each rank counts only the siblings that publish that field, and a figure most of them share is left out.

  • Length, 28 ft: eighth-shortest of 22, between the 23SF (27 ft 6 in) and the 25CY (29 ft 2 in).

Payload check. Budget loaded, not dry: subtract the loaded range, every passenger, the bed and cab load and a weight-distributing hitch from the payload on your tow vehicle’s door-pillar placard (49 CFR 571.110 S4.3).

Check your vehicle. Enter the ratings from your owner’s manual and the door-pillar placard.

Compares your figures with this page’s published GVWR (7,805 lb) and the upper loaded tongue estimate (1,171 lb, a rule of thumb). Your vehicle’s placard and the trailer’s own weight label govern. This floorplan’s published dry weight plus cargo capacity comes to 7,795 lb, which is not its published GVWR; the check uses the published GVWR.

Loaded range: 10–15% of GVWR on the tongue, a rule of thumb, not a measurement of this unit. No truck ratings or hitch classes (why; NHTSA, DOT HS 809 433). The range starts at the published dry figure, because loaded is never lighter than dry.

03 The Campsite Reserve floorplan family

Campsite Reserve is the widest single Forest River travel-trailer roster this site carries: dry weight runs 3,764 lb at the 16BC to 12,380 lb at the top of the loft group, and cargo capacity runs 1,020 to 4,336 lb. Dry tongue weight runs 431 to 1,425 lb and GVWR 5,531 to 14,000 lb. The loft plans are where the weight is -- the 39-series sits at the top of every column -- and the three toy haulers sit in the middle rather than the top, which is unusual for a line that carries both. Twenty-one of the twenty-two profileable plans tie out exactly against dry weight plus cargo capacity. The exception is 23TS, whose own arithmetic gives 7,795 lb against a published GVWR of 7,805; it is published on its own page with that disagreement stated rather than profiled with the rest.

Campsite Reserve is published in three factory groupings across twenty-three floorplans for 2026: fourteen Travel Trailers, five Travel Trailers with a loft, and three Toy Haulers. Every plan on the roster is a bumper-pull -- Forest River publishes a hitch weight, not a pin weight, on all of them, including the toy haulers -- so nothing on this line needs a fifth-wheel truck. One plan, 23CY, is marked dealer-stock-only on the factory roster and publishes no detail page, so it appears in the count of twenty-three and nowhere else on this site -- it is not catalogued and its specifications are not reproduced here. Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity, dry tongue weight, GVWR, all three exterior dimensions and all three tank capacities for the remaining twenty-two. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel. Twenty of the twenty-two carry no factory floorplan description.

04 Notes on this floorplan

Forest River’s own figures do not reconcile

Forest River publishes a dry weight of 5,393 lb †, a cargo capacity of 2,402 lb † and a GVWR of 7,805 lb † for the 23TS. Dry plus cargo comes to 7,795 lb, 10 lb below the published GVWR, and Forest River’s own glossary defines cargo capacity as exactly GVWR minus dry weight. All three figures are shown as published; none is adjusted to close the gap. The factory’s own numbers do not reconcile, so the weight label and VIN placard on the trailer itself govern.

What Forest River does not publish for this line

Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from Forest River's specification channel for Campsite Reserve, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.

Weigh it before you tow it

Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. Forest River's own footnote on unloaded weight calls it an estimated average based on a standard build with optional equipment, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move it. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.

05 How it compares

Lighter
Campsite Reserve 25CY

5,178 lbs dry against this plan's 5,393 lbs, a difference of 215 lbs. Same line, same factory channel, same model year - so the gap is a real one rather than a difference in how two brands measure.

Heavier
Campsite Reserve 25MW

6,008 lbs dry, 615 lbs more than this plan, and 1,757 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 2,402 lbs. Stepping up a floorplan usually buys length before it buys payload.

Most cargo in the line
Campsite Reserve 39GB

4,336 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 22 Campsite Reserve floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.

06 Loading it for a trip

A full 52-gallon fresh tank is about 434 lb of water (water counts as cargo: 49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.2), 18% of the 23TS’s 2,402 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,968 lb. Across 22 Campsite Reserve floorplans the water share runs 8% to 35%, and 7 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Campsite Reserve 32GT at 18% and Campsite Reserve 39LA at 18%. Your own unit’s figure is on the label inside its entry door (49 CFR 571.110 S9.3.3).

07 Where this floorplan sits

Closest sibling: the Campsite Reserve 25CY, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 5 of the 8 fields both publish (this plan first): length 28 ft 0 in vs 29 ft 2 in; dry weight 5,393 lb vs 5,178 lb; GVWR 7,805 lb vs 7,630 lb; cargo capacity 2,402 lb vs 2,452 lb; hitch weight 805 lb vs 630 lb. They match on fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.

11 NHTSA safety record

NHTSA holds 3 recall campaigns and 1 owner complaint against the Campsite Reserve line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.

Too few reports to show a pattern. 1 complaint has been filed on this line — not enough to say what fails most often. It covers structure.

Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Campsite Reserve line page.
