01 What makes it unique
The Coleman 17B is one of the highest-volume compact travel trailers in America, and the floorplan that anchors Coleman's reputation as the value family trailer. In about 20 feet and 2,761 pounds dry, it fits a front bed, a convertible dinette, and a set of bunks — sleeping five — which is why it has been a default first trailer for families on a budget for years. Keystone has updated it without raising the price, the central promise of the line.
It's a conventional stick-built trailer on an I-beam steel frame with stamped-steel cross-members and outriggers, under a walkable roof with a one-piece heated and enclosed underbelly. Practical touches define it: full pass-through storage with extra-tall doors for chairs and gear, a power awning, quick-drop stabilizer jacks, a power tongue jack, blackout night shades, and Furrion backup-camera prep. The cabin stands 78 inches tall with a stainless sink and a full bath.
Single-axle and shore-power-oriented, the 17B keeps capacities modest — a 21-gallon fresh tank — and skips off-grid systems in favor of price. At a starting MSRP in the mid-teens it remains one of the most affordable ways to put a family of five on the road in a new trailer, and its enormous installed base means parts, accessories, and used examples are everywhere.

03 Coleman floorplan family
The base Coleman line — Keystone's compact, value-priced travel trailers. The 17B on this page is highlighted; each other plan links to its own profile. The full line runs from a 13-foot couples' plan up through 27-foot family layouts.
| Floorplan | Nominal | Sleeps | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13B | 16 ft | 4 | Ultra-compact; bunks; lightest |
| 17B | 20 ft | 5 | Bunks; family value; sleeps 5 |
| 17R | 21 ft | 3 | Couples; turned queen; full-width bath |
Coleman is sold in four series: the base Coleman line shown here, plus the larger Coleman Lantern, the laminate Coleman Light, and the mid-range laminate Coleman Legacy. Additional base-line floorplans (13R, 19B, 19R, 23B, 25B, 27B) are documented on the line hub.
04 What owners & reviewers report
A best-seller for a reason
The 17B's bunk layout sleeps five in about 20 feet at a sub-$19k price — the combination that has made it one of the most-owned compact trailers in the country.
Updated without a price hike
Keystone refreshed the 17B while holding the price, the central pitch of the Coleman line for value buyers.
Huge installed base
Years of high volume mean used examples, parts, and accessories are easy to find — a real ownership advantage.
Price varies; modest tank
Base MSRP is published through dealers rather than a fixed figure (confirm locally), and a 21-gallon fresh tank suits hookup camping over long off-grid stays.
05 How it compares
Four feet shorter and lighter, still with bunks (sleeps four) — for smaller tow vehicles or tighter budgets.
A near-identical length reworked for two adults — a turned queen and full-width rear bath replace the bunks.
Same-size value family trailers from the other volume brands — compare floorplan, build, and price head-to-head.
