01 What makes the 2020 284BHOK different
The Eagle 284BHOK sits in Jayco's Eagle travel-trailer range, the towable-behind-a-half-ton side of the Eagle name, below the Eagle fifth wheels and above the lighter Jay Feather. This page covers one model year of it — the 2020 284BHOK, exactly as Jayco published it — because the numbers that decide whether your truck can pull this trailer are not the same from one year to the next.
For the 2020 model year Jayco published a 9,995-pound GVWR on a 8,035-pound dry weight, 1,960 pounds of published cargo capacity, a 145-pound dry tongue weight. That dry tongue is 2% of the dry weight, below the 10–15% band conventionally quoted for a bumper-pull trailer. Tongue weight is not fixed — it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. Check the loaded tongue against the hitch receiver's rating and the tow vehicle's payload rather than against the tow rating alone.
Against the 2019 build of the same floorplan, 5 published fields moved. The full comparison is in section 02, and it is drawn from two separate verified factory records rather than from one record and an assumption about the other.
A 2020 trailer is 6 model years old as of 2026, which puts it squarely in used-buyer territory. Section 05 sets out what to inspect on a travel trailer of this age — tyre date codes, roof and seam sealant, slide seals, and the soft-floor and delamination checks that separate a tidy coach from an expensive one.
Specifications by model year
This floorplan has a verified factory record for 2 model years here, 2019 to 2020, and the specification does not hold still. Across those years dry weight ranges from 7,990 lb in 2019 to 8,035 lb in 2020, a spread of 45 lb; dry tongue weight ranges from 145 lb in 2020 to 985 lb in 2019, a spread of 840 lb. That is why each model year has its own page below, carrying only its own published figures. Nothing on a year page is copied across from a neighbouring year.
| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Cargo (CCC) | Dry tongue | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 7,990 | 9,995 | 2,005 | 985 | Not published | Not published |
| 2020 (in the table above) | 8,035 | 9,995 | 1,960 | 145 | Not published | Not published |
Every row is that model year’s own record from Jayco’s model page for that year. The figures in the tow-critical placard at the top of this page are the 2020 record from the source this catalogue originally profiled. On the weights, overall length and tire size, that record and Jayco’s own 2020 model page agree on every field both of them publish. Exterior height is not compared: Jayco publishes a bare height, a with-A/C height and a with-2nd-A/C height, and the single height row carried here cannot be matched to one of them, so no claim is made either way.
02 Full 2020 specifications
Published figure flagged, printed not corrected. Jayco's 2020 Eagle brochure (page 5 spec table) prints a dry tongue weight of 145 lb for the 2020 model year of this floorplan, against a published dry weight of 8,035 lb. That puts 1.8% of the trailer’s dry weight on the hitch. Across the 1,632 other travel-trailer records on this site that publish both figures, the median is 12%. We re-read the source and 145 lb is the figure it prints. The brochure's own table footnote says some specs at the time of print may include estimates. Jayco's 2019 Eagle brochure printed 985 lb for the same floorplan code (2019 page); it is a different model year and is not used here. This site does not guess what the figure should have been. It is shown as published, listed on the published-figure conflicts page, and left out of the tongue-weight ranges and medians on the tow-match and state-of-market pages and out of the tow matcher’s payload check. Anything on this page worked out from it, such as its share of dry weight or the payload it takes, carries the same problem. Weigh the actual tongue before sizing a hitch or a tow vehicle’s payload.

03 What changed for the 2020 model year
Jayco changed 5 of the published fields between the 2019 and 2020 284BHOK. Every figure in both columns is that model year's own factory record — nothing here is carried across from the other year.
| Field | 2019 | 2020 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry weight (UVW) | 7,990 | 8,035 | +45 lb |
| Cargo capacity (CCC) | 2,005 | 1,960 | -45 lb |
| Dry tongue weight | 985 | 145 | -840 lb |

| Interior height | 7' 0" | 7'0" | — |
| Model year | Dry (UVW) | GVWR | Dry tongue | Sleeps | Tire size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 7,990 | 9,995 | 985 | Not published | Not published |
| 2020 (in the table above) | 8,035 | 9,995 | 145 | Not published | Not published |
Every row is that model year's own factory record, and each year links to its own page. The fuller table at the top of this page adds cargo capacity and names any model year that is deliberately not published here.
Dry tongue weight changed for 2020
Dry tongue weight was 985 for 2019 and is 145 for 2020 (-840 lb). Both figures are the manufacturer's own for their year.
Where these numbers come from
Every figure on this page is read from Jayco's own 2020 model page for the 284BHOK — one source, one model year, no blending. This year's figures are read from Jayco's own model-year brochure for the line, named on the page; where a second publisher holds a figure for the same field it is shown beside it rather than replacing it
Fields Jayco does not publish for 2020
For this model year the factory record omits: Exterior Width (with slides out), Exterior Height, Tire Size, Fresh Water Capacity (gals), Gray Water Capacity (gals), Propane Unit (lbs), Propane Unit (lbs) (Optional), Water Heater, Furnace BTU, Furnace, Auto-ignition (BTU output), # of outside storage compartments, Sleeps. Those rows read “Not published” on this page. They are deliberately not filled in from an adjacent model year — a neighbouring year's figure is an inference about this one, not a measurement of it.
04 Buying a 2020 284BHOK at 6 model years old
Tyres are almost certainly past their service age
At 6 years old, the original the factory tire size will be well beyond the five-to-seven-year age window RV tyres are normally replaced on, regardless of tread depth. Budget for a full set plus the spare unless there is a dated receipt.
Water is what kills these, and it is the cheapest thing to check
Press the walls and floor around the entry, the slide openings, the rear wall and under the front cap. Soft spots, a wavy or rippled sidewall, or a stained ceiling are delamination and water ingress, and they are structural rather than cosmetic.
Appliance and component life
Absorption fridges, water heaters and A/C units commonly need attention somewhere in the second decade. Run every appliance on both gas and mains before agreeing a price.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every weight on this page is a DRY factory figure for the 2020 model year. A used trailer carries its previous owner's additions, and a travel trailer puts its tongue load on the tow vehicle's hitch and through its rear axle. Weigh the loaded rig at a public scale and check it against the tow vehicle's payload, rear-axle and hitch ratings.

06 Loading it for a trip
Cargo capacity on the 284BHOK is 1,960 lb.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Eagle 274CKDS, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 4 of the 6 fields both publish (this plan first): length 34 ft 9 in vs 33 ft 7 in; dry weight 8,035 lb vs 8,020 lb; cargo capacity 1,960 lb vs 1,975 lb; dry hitch weight 145 lb vs 930 lb. They match on GVWR and black tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 44 recall campaigns and 114 owner complaints against the Eagle line. They are counted separately: a recall is a confirmed defect with a remedy, a complaint one owner’s unverified account.
What to look at on a used one. Across the 114 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are tires (23%), structure (18%) and equipment (13%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Eagle line page.
