01 What makes it unique
The Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels 401SFB leaves Forest River's factory at 11,460 lbs dry with 2,036 lbs of cargo capacity. Forest River publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 54-gallon fresh tank spends 448 lbs of the 2,036 lbs before anything else goes in.
Pin weight is 2,079 lbs, 18% of the dry weight as published; it rises as the trailer is loaded and comes off the truck’s payload, not its towing rating, so check it against the payload on your own door sticker (pin weight and payload).
Off hookups: 175 gallons of grey and black capacity against 54 gallons of fresh water, so fresh water runs out first (tank sizes by length).
Against the rest of the Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels roster this is the 16th of 19 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 7,523 lbs to 12,824 lbs. It sits in the heavier third of the line.
Plan the tow on loaded weight, not the 11,460 lbs dry figure: half the published cargo capacity brings this plan to about 12,478 lbs. Forest River publishes no loaded rating for this line, so the ceiling is the one on the trailer’s own weight label (how to read trailer weights).
Forest River’s line listing and this floorplan’s own factory page agree on all 4 shared figures. No GVWR is published for this line, so dry plus cargo has no rating to check against. A missing row means Forest River does not publish that figure (how figures are verified).
Forest River's own description of this floorplan reads: “Discover comfort and style in the Rockwood 401SFB fifth wheel-designed for unforgettable travel. This bath and a half floorplan offers a spacious rear living area with theater seating and entertainment center, a well-appointed kitchen with island, a private king size bedroom, and sleek bathroom. With multiple slide outs, residential-style touches, and quality construction throughout, the 401SFB delivers space,…” That is the factory's marketing copy rather than a specification, and nothing in it is treated as a verified field on this page - layout descriptions, sleeping arrangements and feature claims in factory copy are not carried into the spec table unless the factory also publishes them as specifications.

03 The Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels floorplan family
Signature is where Rockwood stops being a bumper-pull range. Across the fourteen plans profiled here dry weight runs 7,523 to 12,824 lb and pin weight runs 1,280 to 2,205 lb, which is a payload question before it is a towing one -- pin weight lands on the truck's rear axle, and the heavier plans ask for more of it once passengers and a hitch are in. Pin sits in a band of 15.4 to 19.3 percent of dry weight across the whole roster, so the grouping scales predictably rather than hiding a nose-heavy outlier. Cargo capacity runs 1,461 to 2,674 lb and does not track size: the heaviest plan carries the most, but the second-least accommodating plan is a mid-weight one, so the spread is worth reading per plan rather than by length. Fresh water is 53 or 54 gallons on every plan in the roster; grey runs 78 to 131 gallons and black 39 to 92, so waste capacity is the variable that separates these plans off-grid, not fresh.

Signature is the only Rockwood grouping built as a fifth wheel, and Forest River publishes fourteen floorplans for 2027 under two headings: nine as Signature Fifth Wheels and five as Signature Traveler Series Fifth Wheels, the lighter group at 7,523 to 9,762 lb dry against 8,764 to 12,824 lb. Every plan in the roster publishes dry weight, cargo capacity, pin weight, all three exterior dimensions and all three tank capacities, and thirteen of the fourteen carry a factory floorplan description. No plan publishes a GVWR, so loaded rating is shown as not published throughout and is never derived from dry weight plus cargo capacity. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel either, and are absent rather than estimated. Two cargo figures changed on Forest River's own floorplan pages between this site's readings of 31 Jul and 21 Oct 2026: the 301SRK's moved from 7,523 lb, the same figure to the pound as its dry weight, to 2,440 lb, and the R361RLS's from 1,730 lb to 2,197 lb. Both plans are profiled from the revised figures, and the earlier ones are not used.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What Forest River does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from Forest River's specification channel for Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
There is no factory GVWR for this trailer
Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and pin weight for every Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every Forest River unit carries.
Weigh it before you tow it
Forest River calls its unloaded weight an estimated average for a standard build, and options and dealer add-ons change it, so weigh your own trailer loaded the way you travel (how figures are verified).
05 How it compares
10,844 lbs dry against this plan's 11,460 lbs, a difference of 616 lbs.
11,804 lbs dry, 344 lbs more than this plan, and 2,401 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 2,036 lbs.
2,674 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 19 Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 54-gallon fresh tank is about 448 lb of water, 22% of the 401SFB’s 2,036 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,588 lb. Across 19 Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels floorplans the water share runs 17% to 31%, and 7 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels R371RK at 22% and Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels 8299SB at 22%.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Rockwood Signature Fifth Wheels R371RK, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 6 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): length 40 ft 0 in vs 36 ft 10 in; dry weight 11,460 lb vs 10,350 lb; cargo capacity 2,036 lb vs 2,051 lb; hitch weight 2,079 lb vs 2,001 lb; grey tank 83 gal vs 92 gal; black tank 92 gal vs 53 gal. They match on fresh tank.

11 NHTSA safety record
NHTSA holds 35 recall campaigns and 173 owner complaints (model years 2005 on) against the Rockwood & Flagstaff line (a recall and a complaint are not the same thing).
What to look at on a used one. Across the 173 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are tires (22%), structure (17%) and wheels (17%).
Recall coverage here is not complete, and complaints are owners’ unverified reports (how this record is built). Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Rockwood & Flagstaff line page.
