01 What makes it unique
The Salem Villa 44ZEN leaves Forest River's factory at 14,309 lbs dry with 1,891 lbs of cargo capacity. Forest River publishes no GVWR for this line, so the loaded rating is not quoted on this page and is not computed from the other two figures. What the cargo number covers is defined by the factory: fresh water, gear, food, batteries and every dealer-installed accessory come out of it. Fresh water is 8.3 lb per gallon, so filling the 40-gallon fresh tank spends 332 lbs of the 1,891 lbs before anything else goes in.
Dry tongue weight is 1,605 lbs, or 11% of the dry weight. Ten to fifteen percent is the conventional band for a bumper-pull trailer, and this plan sits inside it as published. Tongue weight is not fixed: it moves with how the trailer is loaded, and weight added ahead of the axles raises it. A weight-distribution hitch is the normal fitment at this tongue load, and the tow vehicle's tongue-weight limit is a separate number from its trailer-weight limit.
Tank capacities are 40 gallons fresh, 80 grey and 80 black, 160 gallons of waste capacity against 40 gallons of supply. The ratio is what governs how long the trailer can sit off hookups: waste capacity exceeds fresh, so the fresh tank is the binding constraint and refilling extends the stay. Forest River publishes these three figures per floorplan, and they are the factory's numbers rather than a segment average.
Against the rest of the Salem Villa roster this is the 13th of 14 floorplans by dry weight, in a line that runs from 9,234 lbs to 14,404 lbs. It sits in the heavier third of the line. Comparing floorplans inside one line is more reliable than comparing across brands, because every figure here comes from the same factory channel on the same day.
A useful way to read these figures is to stop planning against the dry weight. Nobody tows a trailer at 14,309 lbs: that is the weight before water, batteries, propane, bedding, food, tools and anything the dealer bolted on. Load half the published cargo capacity and this plan is already near 15,255 lbs on the road. Because Forest River publishes no loaded rating for this line, the ceiling has to come from the trailer's own weight label rather than from this page, and the comparison you make against the tow vehicle should use the loaded figure.
Every number above was captured twice from Forest River and checked against itself before it was published. The line listing and the individual floorplan page are two separate factory renderings of the same trailer, and this plan's 4 shared figures agree exactly on both. There is no published GVWR on this line, so the usual arithmetic check - dry plus cargo equals the rating - has nothing to test against here. Where a figure is missing from this page it is because Forest River does not publish it in this channel, not because it was hard to find - and the row says so rather than being quietly dropped.
Forest River publishes no floorplan description for this plan in the channel this page is built from - only the numeric specification block. Rather than describe a layout from the floorplan code, which would be a guess dressed as a fact, this page carries what the factory publishes and says where it stops. 44ZEN is a Salem Villa designation and this site does not decode it into a layout claim.

03 The Salem Villa floorplan family
These are destination trailers - towed to a seasonal site, levelled, and largely left there - and the numbers only make sense read that way. Fourteen floorplans run 9,234 to 14,404 lb dry against cargo capacity of just 886 to 2,446 lb. On a touring trailer that ratio would be a warning; here it is the design, because the trailer is not being loaded for a trip. What it does mean is that the fit-out a seasonal site accumulates eats the margin quickly, and 886 lb is not much once a screen room, a grill and a season of furniture are aboard. All fourteen are bumper pull, with 1,260 to 1,855 lb on the tongue - a three-quarter-ton or one-ton conversation for a tow most owners make twice a year, which is why so many of these are delivered rather than towed by the buyer. Forest River splits the roster into a standard group and a Grand group, and the split is real: the six Grand plans start at 12,209 lb dry where the six standard plans start at 9,234 lb. Fresh water is 39 to 40 gallons across the whole roster, which is a plumbed-site number rather than a boondocking one and tells you plainly what these are for.

Forest River publishes this roster under four names on two factory line pages: Salem Villa and Salem Grand Villa on one, Wildwood Lodge and Wildwood Grand Lodge on the other. The two pages carry the same fourteen floorplan codes and the same specifications - 231 non-null published fields on each side, and the only differences across all fourteen plans are five floorplan description sentences that differ because each names its own badge. That is the same east/west twin naming already reflected in this reference's merged Salem and Wildwood hubs, so this line is catalogued once under all four names rather than twice. Forest River publishes no GVWR for any of the fourteen, so the loaded rating row reads not published rather than showing dry weight plus cargo capacity added together - that sum is an inference, not a rating, and a trailer's real limit can sit below it. Twelve plans are profiled; two, 42FK and 42VERANDA, are marked dealer stock only by the factory and are catalogued with their weights instead. Floorplan descriptions are published for 7 of the 14. Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are not published in this channel.
04 Notes on this floorplan
What Forest River does not publish for this line
Sleeping capacity, axle count, tire size and MSRP are absent from Forest River's specification channel for Salem Villa, so they are absent here. They are not estimated from the segment, not carried over from a sibling floorplan, and not taken from a dealer listing quoting itself. A tire size in particular is a safety-relevant number that differs between two codes a digit apart, and this site does not guess one.
There is no factory GVWR for this trailer
Forest River publishes dry weight, cargo capacity and dry tongue weight for every Salem Villa floorplan and publishes no GVWR for any of them. The factory's own glossary defines cargo capacity as GVWR minus UVW, which means the rating can be worked out - and a figure you worked out is not a figure the manufacturer published, so this page does not print one. Use the weight label on the trailer itself, which every Forest River unit carries.
Weigh it before you tow it
Every figure on this page is a factory publication for a standard build. Forest River's own footnote on unloaded weight calls it an estimated average based on a standard build with optional equipment, and options, dealer-installed accessories and the previous owner's additions all move it. The only weight that governs your towing decision is the one under your own trailer on a scale, loaded the way you actually travel.
05 How it compares
13,749 lbs dry against this plan's 14,309 lbs, a difference of 560 lbs. Same line, same factory channel, same model year - so the gap is a real one rather than a difference in how two brands measure.
14,404 lbs dry, 95 lbs more than this plan, and 2,400 lbs of cargo capacity against this one's 1,891 lbs. Stepping up a floorplan usually buys length before it buys payload.
2,400 lbs of cargo capacity, the highest of the 12 Salem Villa floorplans profiled here. If payload rather than length is the binding constraint, that is the plan to compare against.
06 Loading it for a trip
A full 40-gallon fresh tank is about 334 lb of water, 18% of the 44ZEN’s 1,891 lb cargo capacity, leaving 1,557 lb. Across 12 Salem Villa floorplans the water share runs 14% to 38%, and 5 give up more than this one. Nearest on that share: Salem Villa 42DMS at 17% and Salem Villa 40RLB at 18%.
07 Where this floorplan sits
Closest sibling: the Salem Villa 42ZEN, nearest on the published figures. It differs on 3 of the 7 fields both publish (this plan first): dry weight 14,309 lb vs 14,404 lb; cargo capacity 1,891 lb vs 2,400 lb; dry hitch weight 1,605 lb vs 1,485 lb. They match on length, fresh tank, grey tank and black tank.
