01 What makes it unique
The Imagine 2500RL moves up from the XLS line into the flagship Imagine range, and the rear-living layout is where the step up shows. A windowed rear lounge with the dinette and seating opens up the back of the trailer, the bedroom sits forward, and the whole package carries the residential finish — the cabinetry, the appliances, the interior design — that earned Grand Design its industry-leading owner-satisfaction scores.
It's built on the same laminated aluminum-framed cage and gel-coated fiberglass exterior as the XLS, with foam insulation, a one-piece roof membrane and a heated, enclosed underbelly — but the flagship line adds MorRyde CRE-3000 rubber suspension for a smoother tow and insulated slam-latch baggage doors. Tanks grow too: a 45-gallon fresh tank and a large 82-gallon grey tank support extended stays for two.
At 6,569 pounds dry with a 7,850-pound GVWR it offers 1,281 pounds of payload — the lightest payload of the flagship plans profiled here, a reminder to load carefully — and sits in half-ton-plus territory. For couples who have decided the XLS isn't quite enough trailer and want the full flagship Imagine experience in a rear-living plan, the 2500RL is the natural place to start in the upper line.

03 Imagine floorplan family
Grand Design's Imagine family — the premium-mainstream volume leader and the industry's perennial owner-satisfaction front-runner. It spans three sub-lines: the lightweight Imagine AIM, the medium-duty Imagine XLS (standard rooftop solar), and the residential flagship Imagine. The 2500RL on this page is highlighted; each other profiled plan links to its own page. The full family runs more than thirty floorplans; the highest-demand layouts across XLS and the flagship line are detailed here and the rest are catalogued on the line hub.
| Floorplan | Line | Nominal | Sleeps | Notable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17MKE | XLS | 22 ft | 4 | Compact Murphy-bed couples coach |
| 22RBE | XLS | 26 ft | 4 | Rear-bath private-bedroom couples |
| 25RLE | XLS | 30 ft | 3 | Rear-living couples coach, two doors |
| 25DBE | XLS | 30 ft | 7 | Double-bunkhouse family |
| 2500RL | Imagine | 30 ft | 6 | Flagship rear-living couples |
| 2670MK | Imagine | 32 ft | 6 | Rear mid-kitchen, dual slide |
| 2800BH | Imagine | 32 ft | 10 | Flagship bunkhouse, sleeps 10 |
| 3210BH | Imagine | 37 ft | 8 | Quad-bunk family flagship |
Imagine XLS floorplans carry a standard 200-watt rooftop solar package, a 30-amp charge controller and a 10-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator; the flagship Imagine line adds MorRyde CRE-3000 rubber suspension and larger holding tanks. Lengths, weights and equipment can change with options and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional XLS, flagship and AIM floorplans are documented on the line hub.
04 What owners & reviewers report
The flagship step up
Moves from XLS into the upper Imagine line — more residential finish, ducted A/C, larger tanks and a smoother-riding chassis.
MorRyde rubber suspension
The flagship line's CRE-3000 rubber equalizer smooths the tow over the XLS's basic suspension — a real difference on rough roads.
Windowed rear lounge
A rear living area with big windows makes the back of the trailer an airy, relaxing space rather than a bedroom or bunks.
Watch the payload
At 1,281 lb, payload is the lowest of the profiled flagship plans — load water and gear with care to stay under GVWR.
05 How it compares
The XLS rear-living plan — lighter, cheaper and standard-solar, with less finish and a basic chassis.
A dual-slide rear-kitchen plan with far more payload — the next step up in the flagship line.
The value rear-living couples' coach — a much cheaper, lighter alternative without the flagship finish.
