01 What the Imagine is

The Grand Design Imagine is the trailer that built Grand Design's reputation: a premium-mainstream travel trailer that consistently posts the highest owner-satisfaction scores in the industry. It sits a clear step above the value volume leaders — Jayco's Jay Flight, Keystone's Coleman, Forest River's Salem family — in finish, construction and price, while remaining a mainstream, half-ton-towable trailer rather than a luxury product.

For 2026 the Imagine name spans three distinct sub-lines. Imagine AIM is the lightweight entry, with floorplans starting under 3,600 pounds for mid-size SUVs. Imagine XLS starts under 5,000 pounds and pairs with medium-duty trucks and SUVs — and is distinguished by a standard rooftop solar package. The flagship Imagine starts under 6,000 pounds and moves into residential territory with larger tanks, MorRyde rubber suspension and the fullest finish.

Construction is consistent across the family and is the heart of the pitch: gel-coated fiberglass walls over a laminated aluminum frame with rigid foam insulation (R-7 walls), a one-piece roof membrane with a limited lifetime warranty, and a heated, enclosed underbelly with suspended tanks. Grand Design backs all of it with a build-quality reputation that drives the line's resale and satisfaction standing.

02 Imagine floorplans compared

Eight representative floorplans across the XLS and flagship lines — spanning Murphy-bed couples, rear-bath, rear-living, and family bunkhouse layouts — are profiled in full with RVUSA-verified specifications. The remaining XLS, flagship and AIM plans are listed by configuration for reference and will be profiled as the catalog expands.

03 How the lines differ

The clearest divide is which sub-line, which tracks weight and tow vehicle. Imagine AIM is the lightweight entry — floorplans under 3,600 pounds aimed at mid-size SUVs, the answer for buyers who want Grand Design finish without a truck. Imagine XLS steps up to a sub-5,000-pound start for medium-duty SUVs and half-tons, and is the only line with a standard rooftop solar package. The flagship Imagine starts under 6,000 pounds and moves into residential territory: larger tanks, MorRyde CRE-3000 rubber suspension, insulated slam-latch baggage doors, and the fullest interior.

Within each line the second divide is couples vs family. Couples' plans — Murphy-bed (17MKE), rear-bath (22RBE), rear-living (25RLE, 2500RL) and rear-kitchen (2670MK) — spend their space on living area, storage and finish. Family plans — the double- and quad-bunkhouses (25DBE, 2800BH, 3210BH) — put a private front bedroom up front and bunks at the rear to sleep seven to ten. Length, weight, tank size and price all climb together up the range.

A notable quirk worth checking per plan is payload. Grand Design's flagship plans vary widely: the 2670MK and 2800BH offer exceptional 2,700-3,000-pound cargo capacities, while the larger 3210BH and the rear-living 2500RL run a more modest 1,300-1,500 pounds despite their size. Match the plan to how heavily you load, not just to length.

04 Model-year & line notes

Construction: laminated aluminum, not Azdel

Grand Design's published specifications and dealer literature describe the Imagine's walls as laminated aluminum-framed (R-7) with rigid foam insulation and a gel-coated fiberglass exterior. Some third-party summaries claim Azdel composite sidewalls; that is not asserted by Grand Design for the current Imagine and is not stated here. Construction figures on these pages follow the manufacturer's verified specifications.

2026 interior refresh & GE appliances

The 2026 Imagine lineup received a comprehensive interior refresh across all three lines, with GE appliances, expanded storage, integrated cutting boards, dinette pullout drawers and soft-close features. New floorplans for 2026 include the 21MBE (XLS), 15RBA and 16MLA (AIM), and the 2970RL and 2700BS (flagship Imagine).

XLS standard solar

Every Imagine XLS ships with a factory 200-watt rooftop solar panel, a 30-amp charge controller and a 10-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator as standard — a genuine off-grid head start that the value-tier competitors typically charge extra for or omit. Add batteries and the trailer is camp-ready without hookups.

MY2027 rollover underway

Grand Design has begun publishing 2027 Imagine pages alongside the 2026 lineup. Figures here reflect verified 2026 model-year records; 2027 specifications, floorplans and pricing may differ as that lineup is finalized.
