01 What makes it unique

The Catalina Summit Series 8 211BH is the lightest bunkhouse in the line and one of the easiest family trailers here to tow. In a 25-foot-11 body with no slide-out, it pairs a semi-private front queen — set off by a privacy curtain and flanked by dual wardrobes — with rear double-size bunks, a full bath placed right beside the bunks for nighttime use, and a booth dinette in the main living area. A pass-through storage compartment runs under the bed. Nominal capacity is six, which is a lot of beds for a trailer this small and light.

Payload is the headline. The 211BH’s 6,647-pound GVWR over a 4,647-pound unloaded weight leaves about 2,000 pounds of cargo capacity — the most generous ratio of any plan on this page, tied with the 221EPIC — so a family can load water, gear and a full pantry without crowding the rating. Standard equipment is the line’s full 12-volt residential package: a GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a 60,000-BTU tankless water heater and a GE 13,500-BTU ducted air conditioner with a heat pump, under a 15-foot power awning with multicolor LED lighting.

Construction is the line’s metal-sided value build — a Norco powder-coated steel I-beam frame with full-length outriggers, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum exterior with a smooth radius front, a seamless Alpha roof membrane and a 5/8-inch StableDeck floor. Like the other no-slide Summit plans, the 211BH carries a 30,000-BTU furnace with flex-ducted cabinet heat rather than the residential in-floor ducted heat on the slide coaches — the usual trade for a lighter trailer. For a family that wants the cheapest, lightest way into a real bunkhouse with payload to spare, it is the value bunk entry.

Published tank capacities on one scale. A full fresh tank is about 317 lbs of water — roughly 16% of this plan’s 2,000 lb cargo capacity, before you load anything else.

These graphics are generated from the same verified record that builds the table above, and are published under this site’s own licence — nothing here is traced from, or derived from, a manufacturer drawing or photo. Where a figure is not published for this plan, the graphic that would need it is omitted rather than estimated. The full record is in the published dataset.

What it takes to tow this

Built from this floorplan’s verified weights. We publish the trailer side only.

Minimum tow rating your vehicle needs6,647 lb
Published dry tongue weight488 lb
Loaded tongue weight, typical range665–997 lb
Minimum receiver hitch capacity6,647 lb towed / 997 lb tongue
The tongue weight above is dry. It is the figure the manufacturer publishes for an empty trailer. Loaded — with water, propane, batteries and your gear — it runs higher, which is why the range row uses loaded weight. Sizing your truck off the dry number under-budgets your payload.
The arithmetic that actually binds. Open your driver’s door and read the payload figure on the yellow-and-white sticker — that number is specific to your truck as built. Subtract from it: loaded tongue weight (use the range above), every passenger, everything in the bed and cab, and the weight-distributing hitch itself where one is used. What is left is your margin. Payload, not tow rating, is what most half-ton owners run out of first.

We do not publish tow ratings for specific trucks. A single model can vary by thousands of pounds depending on engine, axle ratio, cab, drivetrain and package — the only authoritative figure is the one on your own door jamb. Loaded tongue percentages are industry convention for travel trailers (10–15% of loaded weight), not a measurement of this unit. Hitch classes are not used here as a rating: SAE J684 covers trailers to 10,000 lb GVWR and does not define Class V, and capacity boundaries differ between manufacturers — read the rating stamped on your hitch.

03 Coachmen Catalina floorplan family

Coachmen's Catalina is one of the highest-volume value travel-trailer nameplates in North America, spanning several sub-lines: the lighter Summit Series 7, the mainstream Summit Series 8, the full-feature Legacy Edition, the Trail Blazer toy haulers and the Destination park trailers. The 211BH on this page is highlighted; the other profiled plans link to their own pages. Profiled here are breadth-spanning Summit 8 and Legacy Edition floorplans — the rest of the roster is catalogued on the line hub and profiled in demand order.

Every Catalina is built on a Norco electromagnetic powder-coated cambered steel I-beam frame with full-length outriggers, a 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove StableDeck floor, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum (metal-sided) exterior with a smooth aluminum radius front, and a seamless Alpha roof membrane with a lifetime warranty. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a GE 60,000-BTU tankless water heater, a GE 13,500-BTU ducted air conditioner with a heat pump, JBL Aura audio and a 600-watt solar prep. The Legacy Edition adds solid-surface kitchen counters, upgraded aluminum wheels, washer/dryer prep, a larger awning, a full outside camp kitchen and available BAL auto-leveling. Lengths, weights and equipment change with options, sub-line and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional Summit, Legacy, Trail Blazer and Destination floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.

04 What owners & reviewers report

The line’s biggest payload, on a bunkhouse

A ~2,000-lb cargo capacity on a sub-4,700-lb trailer is rare on any value coach, let alone one that sleeps six — load water, gear and pantry without crowding the rating.

Lightest, easiest-towing bunkhouse

At 4,647 lb UVW with no slide and under 500 lb of hitch weight, it tows behind a capable mid-size SUV or any half-ton — the value bunk entry to the line.

Smaller furnace than the slide plans

The 211BH carries a 30,000-BTU furnace with flex-ducted cabinet heat instead of residential in-floor ducted heat — fine for three-season use, worth noting for cold-weather camping.

No outside kitchen on this plan

Unlike the 231BHS and 261BHS, the 211BH does not include an exterior camp kitchen — the trade for the lighter, lower-priced build.

Selling price runs well below the placard

Dealer MSRP placards run near $38,000–$40,000 while 2026 selling prices commonly land in the mid-$20,000s; the figure shown is dealer-typical selling and is flagged.

06 Loading it for a trip

This floorplan carries its water comfortably. A full 38-gallon fresh tank is roughly 16% of the 2,000-pound cargo capacity, leaving the 211BH with a usable gear budget even when you tow full.

Weight budgetFigureWhat it means
Cargo capacity as published (CCC)2,000 lbEverything you add: gear, water, propane, batteries, food, people’s belongings.

Cargo budget left with a full fresh tank1,683 lb16% of this plan’s capacity is spent before a single bag is loaded.
Per sleeping position, water aboard281 lbA rough share of what is left across the 6 berths this plan sleeps.

The published dry tongue weight of 488 pounds is 11% of the 4,647-pound dry weight, which sits inside the 10–15% band usually quoted for stable towing. It is still a dry figure: loading the front pass-through and the fresh tank both push it up.

Nothing above changes the ceiling. Loaded to its 6,647-pound GVWR the 211BH is towing 2,000 pounds more than its 4,647-pound dry figure, and that is the number your vehicle has to be rated for — not the brochure weight.

Tank balance is generous here: 38 gallons of fresh against 44 grey and 30 black, so waste capacity keeps pace with supply and the fresh tank is the constraint that ends a dry stay.

07 Where this floorplan sits

Ranked by GVWR, the 211BH sits 2 of 20 in the Coachmen Catalina line: 6,647 pounds against a line that runs from 6,518 to 11,458 pounds. That position is the useful thing to know, because the plans immediately either side of it are the real alternatives.

Either side of it in the same line: Coachmen Catalina 261BH is 129 pounds lighter at 6,518 lb GVWR; and Coachmen Catalina 221EPIC is 163 pounds heavier at 6,810 lb GVWR.

Against the 211BH: the Puma Camping Edition 23BHCE is 6 lb heavier and 4 ft longer; the Forest River No Boundaries NB20.3 is 46 lb heavier and sleeps 2 more; the IBEX 23MBH is 47 lb lighter. Those are differences in the published numbers only — what they cost, how they are built and how they live are separate questions each of those pages answers on its own terms.

Those are the nearest travel trailers from other lines by weight — one per line, picked by proximity on that figure and nothing else. They are listed so the same tow vehicle can be checked against real alternatives, not because they are equivalent inside; layout, build and price diverge sharply across that group.

For scale, the Coachmen Catalina floorplans profiled here run 4,647 to 9,130 pounds dry and 26 to 38 feet of exterior length across 20 plans. Where a floorplan falls in that spread usually says more about which vehicle can tow it, and which site it fits, than the layout name does.

Every profiled floorplan in this line, with the full weight table, is on the Coachmen Catalina line hub.

08 Common questions about the 211BH

How much does the 211BH weigh?

It leaves the factory at 4,647 pounds dry, and its manufacturer-set loaded ceiling (GVWR) is 6,647 pounds. Real towing weight lands between the two and depends entirely on what you load. Use the GVWR when matching a tow vehicle; the dry figure is only useful for comparing floorplans against each other.

How much can the 211BH carry?

Cargo carrying capacity is 2,000 pounds. That is the whole budget: water, propane, batteries, gear and everything you bring. Filling the 38-gallon fresh tank uses about 317 pounds of that.

What is the tongue weight of the 211BH?

The published dry tongue weight is 488 pounds. It is measured empty; loaded, it runs higher, and it comes out of your tow vehicle’s payload rather than its tow rating.

What size tow vehicle does the 211BH need?

Your vehicle needs a tow rating of at least 6,647 pounds — this floorplan’s GVWR — and enough payload left over for the hitch load, passengers and anything in the bed. This site does not publish tow ratings for specific vehicles, because one truck model varies by thousands of pounds across engine, axle ratio, cab and package. The figure that governs is the payload sticker on your own door jamb.

How many people does the 211BH sleep?

It is rated to sleep 6. Rated sleeping positions include convertible furniture, so count the beds against how you actually travel rather than against the number.

What are the tank capacities on the 211BH?

Fresh 38 gallons, grey 44 gallons, black 30 gallons. Tank sizes set how long the floorplan can sit away from hookups, and the smallest of the three is what ends the stay.

How long is the 211BH?

Exterior length is 25' 11". Measure against your site length and your storage before committing — the exterior figure is the one that has to fit, and it includes the tongue or pin box.

Every figure in these answers is read from this page’s verified specification table. Where the manufacturer publishes nothing, the question is not answered rather than estimated.

09 What this page publishes, and what it does not

This catalog tracks 18 specification fields per floorplan. Named sources publish 16 of them for the 211BH. The rest are not shown, because the alternative is reading a figure across from a sibling floorplan or from what the segment usually does — and a number nobody published is worth less than an admitted gap.

Not published for this floorplan: interior height, tire specification. If you find one of these in a manufacturer document for this plan, it belongs on this page.

The completeness figure at the foot of this page (95%) measures the same thing on the full field set: it is a measurement of how much this floorplan’s manufacturer publishes, not of how much research went into the page.

Values on this page carrying an asterisk were derived by arithmetic from published figures, or come from a single source, rather than being printed directly by the manufacturer. The flag travels with the number into the downloadable spec sheet.

How every figure here was sourced and checked is set out on the methodology page.

11 NHTSA safety record

This floorplan belongs to the Coachmen Catalina line, and NHTSA holds 35 recall campaigns and 39 owner complaints against that line. They are separate records and are not added together — a recall is a manufacturer-confirmed defect with a remedy; a complaint is one owner’s account, which NHTSA does not verify.

What to look at on a used one. Across the 39 complaints filed on this line the most-reported components are equipment (36%), tires (23%) and wheels (8%). That is where owners of this family have had trouble, so it is where an inspection is worth the time.

Recall coverage is not complete — our harvest of NHTSA’s recall API ran 1,556 queries, of which 0 failed and 242 returned an explicit zero. A line can still be under-reported where NHTSA files a roster under a parent name, or where a match rests on the wording of the recall rather than its model field. Complaints come from the complete bulk file but are unverified and self-selected: a high count tracks how many units a line sold at least as much as how well it was built. Check a specific VIN at NHTSA before you buy. Full tables are on the Coachmen Catalina line page.
