01 What makes it unique
The Catalina Summit Series 8 231MKS is the value tier’s rear-living couples’ coach — a front private bedroom with a walk-around queen, a walk-through bath linking it to the living area, and a rear U-shaped dinette under big windows with power theater seating built into the slide. The galley sits mid-coach with a GE three-burner range, a stainless microwave and a deep farm-style sink, and a pass-through storage bay runs under the bed. Nominal sleeping is four — the U-dinette converts for an occasional guest — making this a couples-first layout rather than a family bunkhouse.
At 5,706 pounds unloaded and 28 feet 2 inches, the 231MKS is an easy half-ton or capable-SUV tow with a 1,500-pound cargo capacity. As a Summit Series 8 it carries the line’s standard full-12-volt residential equipment — a GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a 60,000-BTU tankless water heater and a 13,500-BTU ducted heat-pump air conditioner — plus JBL Aura audio and a 600-watt solar prep. Unusual for a Summit plan, it gets the 35,000-BTU furnace with residential in-floor ducted heat (the no-slide 211BH/221EPIC/261BH plans drop to a smaller furnace), and power theater seating is standard on this layout. An 18-foot power awning throws shade over the rear-living end.
Construction is the line’s metal-sided value build — a Norco powder-coated steel I-beam frame with full-length outriggers, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum exterior with a smooth radius front, a seamless Alpha roof membrane and a 5/8-inch StableDeck floor. Being a Summit plan it uses Thermofoil counters rather than the Legacy tier’s solid surface and skips the outside camp kitchen. For a couple who wants a true rear-living lounge and a private front bedroom at the value tier’s lightest practical weight, the 231MKS is the rear-living pick of the Summit line.

Every Catalina is built on a Norco electromagnetic powder-coated cambered steel I-beam frame with full-length outriggers, a 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove StableDeck floor, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum (metal-sided) exterior with a smooth aluminum radius front, and a seamless Alpha roof membrane with a lifetime warranty. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a GE 60,000-BTU tankless water heater, a GE 13,500-BTU ducted air conditioner with a heat pump, JBL Aura audio and a 600-watt solar prep. The Legacy Edition adds solid-surface kitchen counters, upgraded aluminum wheels, washer/dryer prep, a larger awning, a full outside camp kitchen and available BAL auto-leveling. Lengths, weights and equipment change with options, sub-line and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional Summit, Legacy, Trail Blazer and Destination floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.
04 What owners & reviewers report
Value rear-living couples coach
A front private queen, a walk-through bath and a rear U-dinette lounge with power theater seating — a couples-first layout at the value tier’s lightest practical weight.
Half-ton or capable-SUV tow
At 5,706 lbs unloaded and a 730-lb hitch it tows easily; the 1,500-lb cargo capacity is the Summit-tier norm.
Keeps the bigger furnace and theater seating
Unlike the no-slide Summit plans, the 231MKS carries the 35,000-BTU furnace with residential in-floor ducted heat and standard power theater seating.
Summit tier, not Legacy
Thermofoil counters rather than solid surface, and no outside camp kitchen — the trade for the lower price versus a Legacy couples coach.
Selling price runs well below the placard
Dealer MSRP placards run near $32,000 while 2026 selling prices commonly land in the mid-$20,000s; the figure shown is dealer-typical selling and is flagged.
05 How it compares
The Legacy couples coach — adds solid-surface counters, a rear corner bath with a walk-in shower and a standard outside camp kitchen at more weight and price.
The same Summit tier in a family bunkhouse — rear bunks, a living slide and an exterior camp kitchen instead of the rear-living lounge.
A laminated-aluminum rear-living couples coach one construction tier up — cross-shop build and price.
