01 What makes it unique

The Catalina Legacy Edition 283RKS is the line’s rear-kitchen couples’ coach — the galley spans the entire back wall with expansive counter space, overhead storage and a deep farm-style sink, while the front holds a private bedroom and the middle opens into a spacious living area with an SLS sofa and a booth dinette (a free-standing dinette is available). A single large slide keeps the floor open. Nominal sleeping is four; this is a cook-and-couple layout rather than a family plan.

At 7,236 pounds unloaded and 33 feet 2 inches, the 283RKS needs a capable half-ton with a 1,500-pound cargo capacity. As a Legacy Edition it carries the tier’s upgrades — solid-surface kitchen counters, upgraded aluminum wheels and a porcelain toilet — on top of the line’s standard GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, 60,000-BTU tankless water heater and 13,500-BTU ducted heat-pump air conditioner. It runs on 30-amp service, includes a standard outside camp kitchen and a long 21-foot power awning, and pairs a 38-gallon fresh tank with a generous 74-gallon grey tank for extended dry-camping dishwater. Note this plan uses a 30,000-BTU furnace rather than the 35,000-BTU unit on the larger Legacy coaches.

Construction is the same metal-sided value build as the rest of the line — a Norco powder-coated steel I-beam frame, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum exterior with a smooth radius front, a seamless Alpha roof membrane and a 5/8-inch StableDeck floor — with JBL Aura audio and a 600-watt solar prep. For a couple who lives in the kitchen and wants a full rear galley, a private bedroom and a big awning in a single-slide Legacy package, the 283RKS is the rear-kitchen value pick.

Every Catalina is built on a Norco electromagnetic powder-coated cambered steel I-beam frame with full-length outriggers, a 5/8-inch tongue-and-groove StableDeck floor, a Platinum .024-inch aluminum (metal-sided) exterior with a smooth aluminum radius front, and a seamless Alpha roof membrane with a lifetime warranty. Standard equipment is full 12-volt residential: a GE 10.7-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, a GE 60,000-BTU tankless water heater, a GE 13,500-BTU ducted air conditioner with a heat pump, JBL Aura audio and a 600-watt solar prep. The Legacy Edition adds solid-surface kitchen counters, upgraded aluminum wheels, washer/dryer prep, a larger awning, a full outside camp kitchen and available BAL auto-leveling. Lengths, weights and equipment change with options, sub-line and model year — always confirm against the unit's own weight sticker. Additional Summit, Legacy, Trail Blazer and Destination floorplans are catalogued on the line hub.

04 What owners & reviewers report

The Legacy rear-kitchen layout

A galley spanning the entire back wall with a front private bedroom — a cook-first couples plan with a long 21-foot awning.

Big grey tank for dry camping

A 74-gallon grey tank against a 38-gallon fresh gives unusual dishwater headroom for a couples coach.

Legacy tier upgrades + outside kitchen

Solid-surface kitchen counters, upgraded aluminum wheels and a standard outside camp kitchen come on top of the line’s full-12V equipment.

Smaller furnace than the bigger Legacy plans

The 283RKS carries a 30,000-BTU furnace rather than the 35,000-BTU unit on the 30-plus-foot Legacy coaches — fine for three-season use, worth noting for cold weather.

Selling price runs below the placard

Dealer MSRP placards run in the low-$40,000s while 2026 selling prices commonly land near $31,500; the figure shown is dealer-typical selling and is flagged.
